We believe smartphones and social media are not healthy for kids. In order to roll back the phone-based childhood and restore the play-based childhood, we must act together.
But when all our kids' friends are doing it -- and it becomes central to their social life -- it’s excruciatingly difficult for parents to set limits and say no.
This is a collective-action problem that can only be solved collectively. In order to roll back the phone-based childhood and restore the play-based childhood, we must act together.
*All CCC members* are invited to participate in local initiatives, share ideas, and support one another.
* We define a smartphone as a portable touchscreen device with a browser and apps. Home phones/landlines, flip phones, and smartphone alternatives (Ex: Light Phone) are not included.
We believe it is never too late for families to adjust their approach to social media and smartphones. We welcome and support all who are committed to our mission, and are happy to provide guidance for families looking to reduce or eliminate social media and smartphones in their kids' lives.
We hope local businesses will help us build an exceptionally supportive and kid-friendly community, whether that means being understanding of kids walking independently around the village, or helping a child in need with a quick phone call if necessary.

Thank you to our 42 local businesses hosting our Enjoy a Good Read Book Boxes!
Each book box has been decorated by families or youth groups. All books, magazines, coloring/activity books were donated by local families. Books are organized by age range: “Toddlers to Teens.”
Think of it as a “take a penny, leave a penny” — children may:
Read while they wait
Borrow a book to take home
Return or donate books back to any CCC box in town
🤝 Middle and High School students can earn volunteer hours by checking on the boxes and replenishing them with donations
🎨 Reach out if you are interested in decorating a box, donating books/crayons, hosting a box or volunteering to maintain a box.
The CCC was founded by Jill Anderson in July 2025 following the overwhelming interest and engagement in a Mindful Tech Lessons workshop, Navigating Parenting in a "Digital World."
