Round 6 Nurburgring, Germany.
Jaco cleans the floor, Mav returns & Nick goes from Pitlane to Podum.
Once again the laptimes were dropping in the lead up to this race, however the weather gods threw a curve ball in the form of a little bit o' stinkin' rain. The track was damp or greasy, but never Wet, throwing a lot of people offas it became a Lottery of which tyre to run. Those on the Wets seemed to fair best for both stints. Notable drives were Jaco who led from Start t Finish, Maverck came from somewhere in the back to end up in 2nd & also Nick Firth who pulled a no-stop after starting in pitlane to end up 3rd. Fastest lap went to Crossy who had a brief sot of grip o nSlicks at the halfway mark.
Round 8 Suzuka, Japan.
Antoon still in control.
During the lead-up to this race, we saw Lap times tumbling & it was the new cars that were all up front with a lone Belgian Meat Waffle (BMW) in the mix too... Ferraris, Lamborghinis & single Porsche. Qualifying saw the usual suspects up front & it was Antoon on pole, followed closely by The Venter twins from yonder Essay. Brandon, Gunthar & Harrison rounded off the top 6 for Qualifying. It looked to be a clean start as I didn't see any contact from my 7th place vanatage spot. I (Crossy) followed Harrison across a Ripple in T3 but didn't make it off & ended up kissing the wall & losing a heap of spots to rejoin in 13th. Haven't seen other's battles, but I had some good early fighting with Kalo, Adriaan & a couple of others. Will review it tonight add to this report.
In the end, it was Antoon in front, Jaco second & I somehow found myself in 3rd place. Championship standings are still fairly "as they were" but with two rounds & a Drop round in the mix there is still room for change. Next, we go to Monza in another Super Sprint round (25 min & then a 45 min race).
Round 6 Zandvoort, Nederlands.
P. Antoon Takes what in the end is an easy win.
This was shaping up to be a bit of a train ride on a track that is hard to pass. However, Crossy got the jump from Antoon into T1 only to snap oversteer off in T3 & drop back to p10. Antoon took off & was never hampered from that point on. The Venters & Brandon Webley were challenging up front but in the end, it was a Hard charging Gunthar out to make up for recent bad luck that took 2nd in this event.
Crossy meanwhile made his way up to as high as 4th (albeit briefly) before his tires ran out of juice dropping back behind both Thinus 3rd & Webley 4th to hit the line in 5th place. Tires seemed to be a big deal in this event with Crossy Webley, DiMarzo & Botha all experiencing low grip moments that ended in Bovine-like Grass eating sessions in the outfield.
Harrison was looking strong early on & brought the merc home in 7th behind Jaco. From time to time a Lamborghini was seen spinning wildly off into the dust as Rishi struggled with a very pointy setup.
Our next event takes us to the hills by Salinas, California. It's a Super Sprint round at the Classic Laguna Seca.
Round 5 Paul Ricard, Le Castellet, France
Ferrari proves too much for competition
This was another Super Sprint round comprising of a 25 & then a 45 minute race with a single Qual session. Antoon was pipped for Pole by Kewley, who recorded a 1m54.1 in his Aston Martin. Race 1 start was super clean albeit rather congested & all contestants cam out of T1/2 in without incident. After some good passes & battles up front it was Phil Antoon who eventually took the Honours and max points from thinus, Wouter & Kewley. Joe made two passes in this race on Bob & Kevan in dramatic fashion :)
Race 2 saw a rather hectic T1/2 due to an incident between Thinus & Gunthar Rowe. Racing continued & there were a few cars making errors & losing spots through out, making for an intersting watch. End result saw Mav & Thinus Carve their way back through the pack to take 1st & 2nd place. Special Mention was STrahly who was super quick in the Fezza & made the biggest SGP points gain for the event.
Round 4 Valencia
Venter Domination in the Rain
As we run Weather with a possibility of rain, the server through us a curve ball this week with just a light smathering of moisture on a Greasy track.Wets ran Hot & Dries ran cold so it was a Gamble as to which was going to be the better tire across the duration. The Venter's both got this right by starting on Dry Slicks. Mav was running well early on but a SLide in T1 cost him a few places & saw a few of us mid packers go through. Jaco Took the win with Brother Thinus in behind. Mav came home in 3rd to bank some more Championship points. Meanwhile many other floundered around with decisians or Got tangled up incidents. Will be a Reviewsoo nto go through & tdy these up. Well done venters!!!
Round 3 Mt Panorama
Mav takes another victory.
In a dramatic 90 minute race which went through an 8 hour span of simulated time in game, this was always going to be a testy race. Race start was 5am or there abouts & there was a couple of guys who found themselves at the pointy end & amongst the top contenders. Opening lap was as always very good & not much to report, but as the race settled in & people started to race in earnest, the incidents & Mistakes started to surface, changing the leaderboard in typical Bathurst fashion. Strahly & Gunthar had a coming together after a very tight battle at he front which ended in Gunthar being collected at high speed by Jaco, with the resulting damage taking a massive toll on both who were forced to pit for repairs. Crossy leapt up to 4th & then 3rd before making an error which resulted in major contact & also a lengthy stay in pitlane. Full results left... well done to all who braved it out to the end. That was a tough one.
Round 2 Snetterton
Race 1- Mav takes the win while others flounder.
Race 2 - Kewley comes from behind with plenty of fuel & rubber left in the 45 min race to take Phil Antoon in the dying laps & steal the win.
There were some fantastic battles throughout the pack as this tight packed circuit doesn't give out a load of passing opportunities.
Race -1 Crossy takes the win & an early lead in the championship 27/4/23
Phil Antoon took pole in the Qualifying session, followed by Thinus Venter to complete a Ferrari front row lockout. Steve Crossland was in 3rd in the Porsche next to Josh Strahl in 4th in his Ferrari. Crossy got the jump on the start & was able to get past Thinus to take2nd into T1. After latching onto the back of Phil A for the opening 3 laps he was able to get a run on the main straight forcing a Late-braking duel in T1. Phil went a little deep on the Marbles & wasn't able to pull up for the turn & ran into the Grass whie Crossy slipped through & into the lead. This set the scene for what was to come the following lap. Phil rejoined in 3rd & caught up to Thinus. After a good run from the Dipping right hander section Phil was able to pressure Thinus into a small error whichsaw him eating too much Sausage Kerb & run wide. He came back on & moved across into Phil with contact. This should have been a small tap but the Game physics sent Phil flying off track & into the wall, causing mega damage. Crossy Meanwhille had taken advantage of this & built up a decent lead.
At the end of the 1-hour long race the preliminary results were as follows. There will be incidents to review whichmay cange the standings.
