Week 1 MVP
Anthony Davis
Davis earned the first weekly MVP of the 2024-2025 season by powering the Los Angeles Lakers to their best start of to a season since the 2010-2011 squad at 3-0. Davis' 34-11 averages along with dominant defensive totals helped earn him Western Conference Player of the Week as well.
Week 2 MVP
Nikola Jokić
Jokić earned his first Weekly MVP of the 2024-2025 season by leading a Nuggets turnaround in the standings from 0-2 to 3-3. Averaging a 30-point triple double across four games, Jokić's 29-18-16 game against Brooklyn has only ever been done by one other player: the great Oscar Robertson.
Week 3 MVP
Nikola Jokić
The Joker became the first player this season to claim multiple Weekly MVPs, doing so just three weeks into the season. He nearly averaged a 30-point triple double for the second straight week, however his 29.5-15.8-14.5 statline is perhaps even more impressive than last week's. He carried the Nuggets to a 4-0 record in the week, culminating in their 5th straight win on Sunday against a strong Dallas team. Jokić's 37-18-15 statline in that statement win is one of a kind; no one else has ever done it in NBA history. This is also Jokić's sixth total Weekly MVP award, by far the most in our podcast's history.
Week 4 MVP
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
SGA earned his first Weekly MVP award of the season by keeping the Thunder among the elite in the Western Conference with a 3-1 record in the week despite the injury to co-star Chet Holmgren. Shai's career high 45 points in Monday's win vs. the Clippers included nine assists and five steals, showcasing his two-way excellence as one of the top guards in the league today.
Week 5 MVP
Giannis Antetokounmpo
The Greek Freak earned his first Weekly MVP of the season by carrying the Bucks to a 4-0 record in the week and vaulting them up the Eastern Conference standings from 12th and outside of the Play-In picture to 6th and firmly in the Playoff picture. Giannis' near triple-double averages included a 41 point night against the Chicago Bulls, a game in which Giannis scored 25 of Milwaukee's 29 in the third quarter.
Week 6 MVP
Victor Wembanyama
Wemby earned his first Weekly MVP of the season by continuing to lead the Spurs to winning basketball; San Antonio finished the week in the Play-In picture in the hotly contested Western Conference. That record and ranking is a real testament to Wemby's generational talent, as are his historic statlines. His 34-14-11 line along with three blocks and five three-pointers helped power a Spurs comeback in their Sunday win against the Kings.
Week 7 MVP
Luka Dončić
Luka earned his first Weekly MVP of the season by going an undefeated 3-0 in his games played this week, powering the Mavericks to significant victories. His 37 points and 12 rebounds against the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday helped clinch the Mavericks a wild card spot in the 2024 NBA Cup Knockout Rounds. Furthermore, the Mavericks have now moved into a tie for third place in the West with the Rockets, and in that time Luka showcased much improved defense with a 3.3 steals average for the week.
Week 8 MVP
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
SGA earned his second Weekly MVP of the season by leading the Thunder to the Finals of the 2024 NBA Cup. His 35 PPG average across both Knockout Round games was the most of any player in the tournament. His five steals versus the Rockets in the Semifinal game were even more impressive, as he showcased why he's perhaps the best two-way guard in the game right now.
Week 9 MVP
Cade Cunningham
Cade earned his first Weekly MVP of the season and his first ever in any season by leading the Pistons to a 2-1 record and gaining a lead on the Brooklyn Nets for the 10th spot in the Eastern Conference. The Pistons have not made the postseason in any form since the 2019 season, and Cunningham's near double double average on the season has given them their best chance yet to end that streak. His defense has shined as well, averaging more than two blocks per game this past week. Cunningham has shown a complete package game and is one of the league's most promising point guards of the future.
Week 10 MVP
Trae Young
Ice Trae earned his first Weekly MVP of the season by continuing to do what he's done best so far this season: set the table for his teammates and leading the Hawks to winning basketball. Following a strong performance in NBA Cup play, the Hawks have continued to play well and went 4-0 in Week 10. Young has continued to lead the league in both total assists and assists per game in that time, including 15 dimes against the division foe Miami Heat. Outside of his scoring struggles against those Heat, Young has also excelled scoring the ball, averaging 30 PPG in three games on 48% 3PT shooting.
Week 11 MVP
Nikola Jokić
The Joker earned his third Weekly MVP of the season and an unprecedented seventh all-time Weekly MVP by averaging 36-16-11 for the 3-1 Nuggets, who vaulted from seventh to fourth in the hotly contested Western Conference. Against the Jazz in Utah on Monday, Jokić racked up 36 & 22 for a league-leading 13th triple double to close out 2024. At home against the Hawks on Wednesday to open 2025, Jokić was one assist shy of a triple double entering halftime before picking up his 14th of the season in the second. And, in a home-and-away series with the Spurs on Friday and Saturday, Jokić had back-to-back 40-point games. The Joker has continued to dominate the league as one of the clear favorites for what could be his fourth regular season MVP in the last five seasons.
Week 12 MVP
Alperen Şengün
Şengün earned his first Weekly MVP of the season and his first ever in any season by leading the Rockets to a perfect 2-0 record in the week to help strengthen their hold on the #2 seed in the tough Western Conference. Şengün has been perhaps Houston's most consistent player in their stellar season, if not their most valuable, averaging a double-double for the season. In the Rockets' matchup against #3 Memphis on Thursday, Şengün shined with 32 points and 14 rebounds. Against Washington earlier in the week, Şengün showcased his versatility as well by racking up double digit assists.
Week 13 MVP
Giannis Antetokounmpo
The Greek Freak earned his second Weekly MVP of the season by putting up massive numbers in a 4-0 week for the Milwaukee Bucks, who were able to jump from 6th to 4th in the Eastern Conference. Giannis kept his streak of consecutive double-doubles alive throughout the week, reaching his 13th straight in Sunday's home win against the 76ers. To open the week, Giannis picked up his 50th career triple-double in the win against the red-hot Kings. Giannis has continued to strengthen his team's record and his own chances at a season MVP award with his monsterous play inside.
Week 14 MVP
A.D. earned his second Weekly MVP of the season by leading the Lakers to an undefeated week in Rivals Week as they supplanted the crosstown rival Clippers for the 5th spot in the Western Conference. Davis led the Lakers in multiple categories in both of their Rivals Week matchup victories; against the Celtics at home on Thursday, Davis was the top scorer for either team. Against the Warriors in San Francisco, Davis totaled a monster 36-point 13-rebound double-double with three steals and a block. A.D. averaged nearly two steals and three blocks per game in the week, showcasing his continued defensive dominance.
Week 15 MVP
Anthony Edwards
Ant-Man earned his first Weekly MVP of the season by leading the Timberwolves to a perfect 3-0 record in games he played during the week with stellar two-way play. Edwards logged back-to-back games of 30+ points against Phoenix & Utah, including an 11 assist double double in Salt Lake City. Across their five game winning streak from the past couple of weeks, Edwards averaged 29.4 PPG & 7.2 APG, leading Minnesota as a combo guard of sorts with injuries to Donte DiVincenzo. Additionally, Edwards was selected for his third straight All-Star Game.
Week 16 MVP
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
SGA earned his third Weekly MVP of the season by leading the league-best Thunder to another 4-0 week while averaging better than 35 points per game. SGA's 50-point performance at home versus the Suns was his third straight 50-point game on a Wednesday, while his 32-point performance on Saturday against the Thunder's next closest peer in the West in the Grizzlies was his 20th straight game with at least 25+ points. Even with the return of likely future All-Star Chet Holmgren to the lineup on Friday, Shai looms large as the potential MVP of the league on a team with a strong chance to advance to the NBA Finals in this year's playoffs.
