Prevalence
F. hepatica is found on every continent expect antarctica. There is a very specific time of year that livestock owners have to be worried about liver flukes infecting their herds. Since F. hepatica is so reliant on its intermediate host, the snail, liver fluke infections are uncommon in the colder and drier months. Spring and Summer are the most likely times to get the parasite.
Location
F. hepatica is found all over the world. Anywhere where you can find livestock and snails, there's bound to be liver flukes
Species
F. hepatica is one of three in it's species. F. nyanzae and F. gigantica are the other two. Though currently there is research being done on a possible cross between F. hepatica and F. gigantica
Development
Due to the complexities of its life stages, F. hepatica has a very hard time reaching maturity and millions die before reaching the ruminant body.
Size
The adult F. hepatica typically ranges from 3-4cm while the eggs are 140 micrometers by 80 micrometers
