Upstander: An “upstander” is "a person who speaks or acts in support of an individual or cause, particularly someone who intervenes on behalf of a person being attacked or bullied." The term"upstander," coined by diplomat Samantha Power and Facing History, is now recognized by the Oxford University Press as an official word in the English language.

Chiune Sempo Sugihara - Honored at Yad Vashem as "Righteous Among the Nations, Chiune Sugihara issued thousands of life-saving visas to Jewish refugees in Lithuania in defiance of his pro-Nazi government, putting his own life at risk.
Nicholas Winton - Also honored at Yad Vashem, Nicholas Winton was a British humanitarian who supervised the rescue of 669 children, most of them Jewish, from Czechoslovakia on the eve of World War II.
WW2: How did one Englishman save 669 children from the Holocaust? - In 1938, Nicholas Winton was a young stockbroker in London who was keenly aware of the events unfolding on the continent.
