D-Circle is a community-driven engagement and innovation model designed to bring people together through creativity, conversation, and collaborative problem-solving.
It creates inclusive spaces where individuals from diverse backgrounds can explore ideas, develop practical skills, and build meaningful social connections—while contributing to a wider culture of grassroots innovation.
At the heart of D-Circle is a fortnightly session that blends informal conversation with hands-on creative exploration in a relaxed, welcoming environment.
Participants are invited to:
Engage in guided discussions and creative thinking exercises
Explore arts, calligraphy, crafts, and upcycling activities
Experiment with accessible AI and digital tools for creative projects
Share knowledge, ideas, and lived experiences across disciplines
These sessions act as “living labs”, where ideas are explored in real time, creativity is encouraged without pressure, and participants actively shape the direction of activities.
D-Circle operates as a structured yet flexible model that can be replicated across communities:
Create a safe, welcoming space
Facilitate conversation and creativity
Encourage collaboration and idea-sharing
Capture insights, skills, and emerging ideas
Develop small-scale pilot projects from within the group
This approach transforms informal gatherings into engines for community-led innovation.
D-Circle delivers measurable social and developmental outcomes:
Strengthens social cohesion and reduces isolation
Encourages intergenerational and cross-disciplinary learning
Builds confidence, creativity, and problem-solving skills
Supports mental wellbeing through relaxed, meaningful engagement
Creates pathways for community-led projects and local initiatives
Even small groups generate tangible benefits, demonstrating the effectiveness of low-cost, high-impact engagement models.
D-Circle is designed as a replicable framework that can be adapted for:
Community centres
Libraries and public spaces
Adult learning environments
Wellbeing and social prescribing programmes
With further development, the model can support:
Local innovation hubs
Skill-sharing networks
Collaborative project development
Creative micro-enterprises
In an increasingly disconnected and fast-paced world, D-Circle provides a simple but powerful solution:
A space where people can slow down, connect, create, and contribute.

Testimonial
Having my work cut short by severe arthritis, I retired on a state pension 4 years ago. My condition resulted in being house bound, due in part to curbed motivation caused by pain and lack of mobility. I talked to Anthony Wan about my long involvement with creative writing, being published in many presses internationally, and on the Internet, and running writers groups and being a performance poet, and an occasional columnist for Hull Daily Mail. Anthony suggested that I lead a writers event at the Chinese Cultural Centre, and read some published work. I agreed. It was my first outing to town for years. I came to realise what a big problem getting out had become. The audience was very supportive and made me realise how human contact is needed for good mental health. My confidence has increased along with a general sense of well being. I hope to be a regular member and participant in other diverse activities the centre may offer. -- Joe Fearn
