Crocodiles dwell in lowland, humid tropics of the Northern and Southern hemispheres. They tend to live in saltwater habitats such as mangrove swamps and estuaries.
Each species has its own preferred habitat type, all 16 are semi-aquatic.
American crocodiles usually tend to surface near brackish or saltwater areas and can be found in ponds, coves, and creeks in mangrove swamps.
They enjoy tropical climates where they can bask in the sun year-round.
A few more bodies of land they naturally inhabit include coastal marshes, lagoons, and billabongs.
