Suit Care
Suit parts:
Parts such as paws, tails, armsleeves, and feetpaws may be fully submerged in cold bath water, or washed in a washing machine using cold water and on the most delicate settings. You may also use a Bissel green machine to wash parts. If washing by hand make sure to also use cold water and fully rinse out all detergent so you don't ruin the fur. Dry using a fan. Be sure to let it sit till it’s fully dry ( brush every once in awhile to avoid fur damage). For feet I’d suggest putting them sideways while drying to avoid pooling in the soles.
Heads:
My personal favorite cleaning device is a bissell little green carpet cleaner. It’s an excellent and very popular fursuit washing device. If you do not own a bissell you can also hand wash the suit. Heads cannot be fully submerged in water. To wash heads, wet the suit with a washcloth (avoiding the eyes so you don’t ruin them). Make sure you get the whole thing wet so it's thoroughly cleaned. Then you’ll want to repeat that step but use a bit of detergent (must be bleach free). After you complete that, repeat the first step making sure the detergent is fully removed. If you do not rinse the detergent after it will ruin the fur. After you will want to brush your suit and let it dry in front of a fan, make sure to brush often while drying to ensure the fur dries properly. I usually open the neck in front of the fan to dry the inside. Something to note as well; the type of fabric used on the teeth has a tendency to yellow after becoming wet. If this happens don’t be alarmed! I use a very small amount of oxiclean laundry stain remover on a slightly damp washcloth. I gently rub over the teeth until the yellowing comes out. If you have any questions while washing your suit feel free to reach out! I suggest watching a few YouTube tutorials before going in for it to make sure you will do it properly.
Light cleaning:
Make sure you brush your suit often to keep it nice! I recommend only using a boar bristle brush on the shaved parts of your fursuit as its gentler on the fur and will lower the chance of balding. You can use a normal slicker brush on the longer fur. A good spray down of fursuit spray and a brush is a good thing to do after suiting. A good spray down of fursuit spray accompanied by a brush is always a good thing to do after suiting. When storing your suit, I suggest storing it in a dark/cool place.
