The goal of this conference is to introduce Model UN formally to the Capital Region NY through a simulation of the United Nations. Our first and foremost goal is to make Model UN an accessible activity for all those interested in global politics, foreign affairs, congressional style debate, and writing policy.
As an activity, Model UN is meant to empower youth and embolden in them a sense of civic duty. If there's one thing we want delegates to walk away from our conference knowing, it's that they have the power to write and influence policy that can change the world. That being said, we hope that knowledge empowers them to engage personally with local, state, and national government and understand the impact of their voice.
As a result, we are excited to offer the only large-scale annual conference in the capital region and one of the only formal novice-geared conferences in the nation. This conference is about growth and creating a community of leaders right here in the capital region, and we are proud to say that we boast an abundance of resources for delegates to build all the necessary skills and confidence.
Every year, we hope delegates will find utility in resources like our policy paper guide and our series of workshops run directly before the conference. As a part of our conference policy, our staff commits to grading all policy papers submitted by the specified deadline and giving constructive feedback on both the written and oral aspects of a delegates participation.
All this is not to say that this conference is only for people new to Model UN. For those who need guidance on getting started in Model UN, our GA committees are the perfect resource. For those with a couple of conferences under their belt and command of general MUN procedure, our crisis committee will help delegates master faster-paced and more demanding debate. Moreover, our opportunities for experienced students to learn how to chair or lead training workshops will provide invaluable insight to any individual and their respective team. We truly cannot stress enough that there is room for everyone at this conference and that we take the role of meeting everyone at their level of comfort with MUN seriously.
We hope that if you have read this far, we have sufficiently convinced you to get involved in the conference, and we will see you on December 6th!
