NURS 620 Culture & Health Critical Perspectives
Dr. M Slipp
Introduction
There is a greater awareness that cultural competency, cultural safety and cultural humility are paramount to achieve equitable healthcare for ethnic minorities. Many health authorities have included mandatory or non-mandatory cultural competency/cultural safety training to ensure staff have the ability to respectfully and effectively interact with people from diverse cultures. It is important to note that there are varying definitions and interpretations of cultural competency, cultural safety and cultural humility and how we can best implement them. In this presentation we will attempt to clearly define terms and offer our perspective on how we can best achieve health equity for ethnic minorities in healthcare organizations.
