Albert Einstein was once quoted as saying “The only thing you absolutely have to do is know the location of the library” and I believe as the patron that’s literally all you have to do, just leave the rest up to us as the librarians once you arrive. As an information specialist, I believe that one in that position should demonstrate a strong passion for reading, self-discipline, effective in research, and be able to adapt to the ever changing world.

In my time in the MLIS program I’ve learned that being an information specialist in a library setting requires more than just knowing how to put books back in their proper places. It’s also about appreciating the library as an institute that is often overlooked and underappreciated for the many services it provides. In the role of a librarian I intend to live up to my best expectations with what I’ve learned from my professors and the knowledge I’ve gained from my own personal research and studies. My learning experiences will allow for me to fill any capacity I find myself in to the best achievement I can offer.

Over the next five years I intend to use the knowledge I’ve gained in such spectrums as providing a quality story time for various age groups, understanding the library’s importance in regards to social issues, and planning events for the community that puts them in a better position to feel more comfortable with coming the to the library as either a single patron or family. With all of these qualities I’ve gained, and many more, using them in my capacity with any library I am blessed to find employment with will prove to be beneficial not just to their services and motto, but to my own personal growth and beliefs as well.
