FAQs

Why are you providing these services?

With the COVID19 crisis, people in intellectual professions are put to an even greater trial than in typical times. A shrinking job market puts more pressure into professions that already had narrow bottlenecks. This situation is very similar to that faced in academia, which allows me to build on my 15 years of experience when I coach/consult. I do this as a form of volunteering.

How does the donation thing work?

It's simple: First, get in touch with me since I only work with a small number of clients at a time, and I may not be the best person for you. If we both think we should work together, we will decide on an amount that is equivalent to the cost of the coaching/consulting time, and on an effective charity that you will donate this with. You will then make a donation and copy me (if the charity has that system), or directly send me proof of the donation prior to our next meeting.

I'm already donating. Why do I need to donate any more money to access your services?

Several reasons:

  1. Other coaches say that coaching is more effective when the client pays for it. By asking you to donate to a charity, I'm making sure that you get that extra motivation to make our sessions work!

  2. Other research suggests we value more things we pay for.

  3. There is an opportunity cost for our time (i.e., instead of meeting, we could do something else with a positive impact). By making an extra donation, we both make sure that regardless of the outcome, each session together has made the world a better place.

How much do you charge?

In hourly terms:

  • If you are employed, I will ask you to done 3% of your net monthly salary -- roughly the equivalent of one hour of your work.

  • If you lead a business, I have a flat rate of 150€/hour. If your business is fledgling, we can discuss your signing the Founders pledge.

  • If you don't have income at present, we can discuss making a pledge to donate the amount when you do.

Why do you ask me to donate to specific charities?

Some charities do a lot more good than others. This is why I ask you to donate to specific charities, typically through Give Well. If you reside in another country and you want to benefit from tax deductions for your donations, you can look at this page.
