Odd Meaning In Cricket

Professional bettors have an excellent grasp of the vocabulary associated with sports betting. However, what about a beginner who doesn't know what odd means in cricket?

Odd in cricket is a number used to calculate your potential winnings.

Let's say you bet INR 100 at odds of 1.7 on a Chennai Super Kings win. The team wins and now your stake needs to be multiplied by the odds, i.e. 100x1,7=170 INR. This is the amount of money you will receive if you win your bet.

This cricket odd used to be calculated by betting sites analysts, based on the probabilities of possible outcomes of the game. Now all the calculations are made thanks to automated software under the supervision of some analysts.

Types of Odds in Cricket

Betting sites in India use different formats of odds on their sites, but in most cases they are decimal odds. Around the world, they are known as European odds and are written in whole or fractional numbers. For example: 2, 3.45 or 1.338.

However, there are other formats of odds in online betting!

American Odds

US bookmakers use American odds which are written in integers with a "+" or "-" sign. Positive odds reflect the amount of potential profit from a bet of $100 or other currency. And negative quotations show how much it is necessary to bet in order to earn a profit of 100 conventional units. Let's look at an example of a Champions League match.

British (fractional) Odds

British bookmakers give preference to fractional odds, which consist of two parts:

  1. Profit (the first number is the numerator);

  2. The sum of the bet (the second number is the denominator).

To convert fractional odds to decimal, divide the numerator by the denominator and add 1. The European equivalent of fractional odds 2/11 is 1.18 and is calculated by the formula: 2/11+1.

Malaysian Odds

In essence, Malaysian odds are very similar to American odds. They necessarily have a + or - sign, that is, they can be both positive and negative. But the American odds are exposed integer numbers, for example +120, - 215, +157, etc. Whereas Malay ratios are expressed in fractional numbers, for example +0.25; +0.215, - 0.0356, etc.

There is also a difference in what "+" and "-" mean. With plus quotes, the net profit on the bet will be less than the amount spent on its conclusion. And with negative Malay odds, the net gain will be greater than the bet amount.
