About Mr. Chitta

Mr. Chitta (key-duh) is in his 7th year as the Crestwood Middle School Band Director. A native of Seguin, Texas (near San Antonio), he was an avid member of the Seguin High School Band as a Leader in the Marching Band, as well as in the Euphonium section of the Wind Symphony and Wind Ensemble. Following his time in Seguin, he pursued his Bachelor of Music Degree down the road at Texas State University in San Marcos (Eat 'em Up, Cats!). While there, he was active in the Bobcat Marching Band (Section Leader), Wind Symphony, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Jazz Band, and a guest performer with the Symphony Orchestra. He attributes his love of Euphonium, Music and Music Education to his professors: Raul Rodriguez, Dr. Caroline Beatty, and Dr. Mary Ellen Cavitt. He graduated with honors in 2010, and was eager to begin his very first teaching job!

He spent the next seven years in the Dallas/Fort Worth area as an Assistant Band Director at Richardson North Junior High School, Plano West Senior High School, and Hurst Junior High School. In the spring of 2017, he was fortunate enough to complete his Master of Music degree in Music Education at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. So much wonderful time was spent under the tutelage of great coworkers and mentors Kristin Hames, James Hannah, Monica Dominguez, Steve Madsen, John Benzer, Brian Merrill, Lynne Jackson, and Dr. Sarah Allen.

Along with having experience in the classroom, Mr. Chitta has devoted much of his life to the marching arts and is currently on the Marching Band Staff at East Kentwood High School and Jenison High School. He spent five summers with the Madison Scouts Drum & Bugle Corps as a Baritone and Euphonium player (2004-2008), as well as on Visual Staffs for various high schools in the greater San Antonio, Austin, Dallas/Fort Worth areas such as: Winston Churchill High School, James Bowie High School, Dripping Springs High School, JJ Pearce High School, LD Bell High School and Thomas Worthington High School (OH). The summers of 2011 and 2012 were spent on the Visual Staffs of the Madison Scouts and Glassmen Drum & Bugle Corps.

When not teaching, Mr. Chitta enjoys reading and/or listening to audiobooks and podcasts, rewatching Seinfeld episodes, and spending time with his wonderful and extremely supportive family: wife Kaitlin, sons Matthew,  Joshua, Samuel and daughter Grace.
