Mission Statement
At the Climate Refugee Embassy, we are ambassadors for those displaced by the retaliatory natural disasters that we have collectively brought upon ourselves with our excessive waste and overconsumption. They are without protection in international law, and without representation. We aim to correct this. "'Climate refugees' is a phrase often used in the media to describe people who are forced to move from their homes due to climate-related events, but it is not a term officially recognized in international law. As mentioned above, most climate-related displacement is within countries, whereas the 1951 Refugee Convention offers protection only to those fleeing war, violence, conflict or persecution who have crossed an international border to find safety" (United Nations Refugee Agency). We collaborate internationally to secure safe passage, housing, and supplemental funding for refugees fleeing unlivable climates and work with them continually to ensure comfortable, productive absorption into the societies in which they land, for the betterment of their own lives and those of their new communities.Â
