Under the leadership of Ali Mauritsen, a Creighton Arrupe Global Scholar, Creighton SNaHP students created a resource guide and navigation map for the U.S. healthcare system, published in 13 languages. They distributed and explained the guide at the annual Refugee Health Fair and presented it to community members at the Yates Illuminates Center. In a year-long campaign with the nonprofit Undue Medical Debt, our chapter raised over $10,000 to abolish approximately $1 million of medical debt in Nebraska. Fundraising efforts included a Dance Off Debt event, tabling, bake sales, and contacting friends, family and potential donors.
The Summit is a one-day gathering of medical and health professional students from institutions all over the country who support single-payer national health insurance, or “improved Medicare for all.” Attendants build relationships with other advocates, learn what a national health program would look like in the U.S., develop vital advocacy skills, and contribute directly to the national strategy of SNaHP through networking and breakout sessions.
