The sixth annual meeting of the Canadian Resource and Environmental Economists (CREE) Study Group was hosted by McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, October 4-5, 1997.

The Canadian Resource and Environmental Economics Study Group was formed in 1991 and its inaugural conference was organized by John Livernois and Patrick Martin at the University of Guelph. Elizabeth Wilman used the acronym CREE in 1994 while organizing the conference at the University of Calgary, and it stuck. At the 2018 business meeting. members decided to change the name to the Canadian Resource and Environmental Economics Association | Association canadienne d’économie des ressources naturelles et de l’environnement.
