Milpitas is a small city. As my brother-in-law likes to call it: a speed bump on the highway. However, the little city isn't without some great eats! These are some of my all-time favorite lunch spots, and they just happen to be all in the same place. :)
My older sister introduced me to Sea Link Cafe a few months ago, and I am hooked! I got my boyfriend hooked to their sandwiches too.
Located in Downtown Milpitas, Sea Link Cafe is a small store-front. They share the parking lot with an Indian restaurant, so parking is very limited. It's a tight space inside packed with a few tables and chairs. There is some patio seating if you feel claustrophobic.
Sea Link Cafe serves Mexican-style sandwiches, ranging in prices from $9.99 to $11.99. You definitely get bang for your buck here! The portions are huge, and the chef doesn't skimp on the ingredients either. I've watched the chef grab a handful of greens while other places just use a few leaves. The sandwiches have a perfect ratio from meat to veggies to bread. All the sandwiches are served with a bright green sauce. I have no idea what it is, but it's delicious! Beware it can get messy.
I also enjoy the alfajores (dulce de leche cookies) and the Cuban coffee! The coffee reminds me of cafe sua da (Vietnamese coffee)-- strong, brewed coffee with condensed milk.
Indian + Pizza = Best fusion food ever. When I first tried Indian pizza, I was questionable about the taste. However, after one bite, I fell in love. <3 I've gone to Parktown Pizza Company once when I was kid, but back then they didn't serve Indian fusion food. I'm not too sure when they started serving Indian pizza either.
Parktown Pizza Company is located in Parktown Plaza. It's hidden behind a building that's currently under construction. Parking is limited due to the construction, but there's still plenty of space since it's a fairly quiet plaza. Inside, the restaurant is dimly lit and spacious with booths and tables. There's giant flat screen tables on the wall to watch sports. I love the fact that they have a large variety of beers on tap too. Service can be slow, but it's only because they make everything from scratch. Expect to wait 30-45 minutes at times. If you're on a time crunch, just pre-order ahead of time for pick-up.
They have both an Indian menu and American menu. What makes Indian pizza unique from regular pizza is that it's made with a curry-base sauce instead of the traditional tomato-base sauce. In my opinion, Indian pizza is alot more flavorful with spices in the base sauce and meat. It's great for vegetarians who are looking for more than a plain cheese pizza. In addition to Indian pizza, Parktown serves Indian-fusion appetizers, such as tacos, nachos, and fries. I love their Indian sampler plate with tandoori wings, curry bread, and samosa bites. If you can handle spicy food, I definitely recommend bookmarking this place!
My co-workers and I often go to Mikonos Grill for lunch. It's a 15 minute drive from the office, but I guarantee it's worth it.
Mikonos Grill is located in a small plaza with limited, compact parking. The parking lot is shared with numerous businesses too. There's decent space inside the restaurant. It's not too small, but not that big either. The service is quick and friendly as well.
They have quite a vast menu with options of pita sandwiches, plates, and salads. Both the pita sandwiches and plates have the choice of 2 sides: rice, soup, salad, or fries. It's also served with tzatziki sauce and pieces of pita bread. I usually get the lamb souvlaki (kebab) plate, but I always have a difficult time deciding whether I want fries or rice for my plate in addition to the side salad. However, if I'm with my co-workers, I get the rice and split the fries with them. I highly recommend the Greek fries. Get it, and I promise you won't regret it. The Greek fries are similar to Nick the Greek fries, except crispier and less soggy. Furthermore, the portion sizes are huge!
