Planar deformation features, or PDFs, are optically recognizable microscopic features in grains of silicate minerals (usually quartz or feldspar), that are only produced by extreme shock compressions. Their presence is a primary criterion for recognizing that an impact event has occurred.
The current budget is to carry out a definitive study on the identity of the crater and verify the hypothesis of its meteorite origin.
This research has 3 consecutive steps:
1) drilling at a depth of 50 m in the center of the structure for extraction of geological cores.
2) Transport of geological cores to the University of Vigo for the preparation of petrographic samples in its laboratories.
3) shipment of petrographic samples for pdf studies to the geological survey of denmark and greenland laboratory
