Introduction

Crash Bandicoot: The Great Cortex Chase is a new exciting dark ride that for the first time ever uses the EMV ride system outside of a Disney park. This ride will take place after the events of Crash Bandicoot 3 where guests will be unknowingly become a target of the brilliantly evil scientist Dr. Neo Cortex and his many assistants in another attempt to take over the world, taking guests into the many kooky locations of the Crash franchise both in the present and past.

Façade

Guests will get the first glimpse of Crash Bandicoot: The Great Cortex Chase by seeing the Temple of Cenytru from either path that they decided to enter the area through. The temple is reminiscent of ones that you'd see in South America created by the Incans or Aztecs, but with a bit more of a cartoon feel to it. Guests enter through a lovely courtyard with a fountain and exotic landscaping. The temple is very clearly old, older than everything else around it and taller too. At night, torches are lit to attract guests inside. May as well enter right now though!

Just before entering into the temple, the line will split off into two; one for people who have Express Pass and the ordinary line for those who don't. For the sake of this ride through we will be going through the standard queue.

Queue

The first part of the queue is inside a massive two floor room inside the age old temple that is built around a massive giant, purple crystal trapped within a rock. There's a drilling machine near the crystal with a sign that reads "On Break - Be Back Later Master". There's pillars with faces everywhere, some as expected hold up the ceiling above, but others just vertically end at seemingly random points. Tunnels can also be seen leading elsewhere into the temple where crushing walls seek to destroy intruders, that hasn't stopped bats from living in these spaces. After circling in this room and seeing many of the art (and traps) that the tribe who built this temple left behind, guests enter the sewers.

The sewers are a much more modern addition to the temple providing access to the top floor of the temple without any of the traps and of course for other, more modern conveniences. A tube surrounds guests with running water coming from underneath the elevated metal platform that guests walk on. As guests gradually go up an incline to the second floor of the temple they'll notice cartoony pipes bulging from seemingly every direction, spinning fan blades blocking tunnel entrances, and robotic mice slithering on the walls. After reaching the top of the walkway, guests enter the second floor of the temple.

This is the same large room that guests entered the temple into, but from a different perspective from above. Guests once again see the purple gem, but they also see the top of those column platforms from earlier which have man eating plants on top! After making it to the other end of the room, guests are corralled into a small waiting area (formerly the throne room of the tribe's leader), where there's an Aku Aku crate. Aku Aku, the talking mask guide, pops out of the box (not completely) and warns guests that Neo Cortex is in the other room. He advises them to hold onto the hand bars present in the room to stay safe. Guests then enter Neo Cortex's private laboratory.

Preshow

There are two identical preshow rooms, both are elevators that take guests back to ground level for the boarding station. Inside this laboratory, filled with all types of gadgets and gizmos, there's a curtain hiding a stage with a television nearby covered in knobs. Of course those hand rails are also present for guests to hold onto just as Aku Aku mentioned.

The preshow begins revealing Neo Cortex, an audio animatronic, behind the stage curtain (The elevator will begin going down at this point though most won't notice). Thinking we're his new human mutant army, he introduces himself and his new plan to defeat Crash. Using the Giganctix gem, he will build a new super weapon, the Crash Decimator, that will destroy Crash and the entire N. Sanity Island where he will use the land to build condos and using real estate money will be able to rule the world! N. Gin, Cortex's assistant, video calls him explaining that he's been able to unearth the gem and using N. Brio's 15 minutes or less shrinking potion has transported it to a secure location.

Neo Cortex after congratulating N. Gin, soon realizes that the human mutant army was going to be created tomorrow and realizes that the guests must be intruders and they must be destroyed too. Suddenly the curtains close and Coco Bandicoot appears on the screen. She explains that she's hacked into Cortex's systems (12345 is his password for everything) after noticing the guests entering the temple. She tells them that they need to find Crash in the jungles so that he can save the day once again using her super special Robotic RC Warthogs. She tells guests good luck before they exit from the room.

Boarding Station/Ride System

The Boarding Station is located back in a temple ruins-like area. "Daylight" can be seen from the openings that that the vehicles enter and exit out of. On a wall near the boarding station, there's a mural-like map showing the Wumpa Islands which include N. Sanity Island, Wumpa Island, and Neo Cortex Island the home of the lair of guess who? Coco gives the safety spiel in English, while Aku Aku gives it in Spanish.

The Great Cortex Chase uses a non-patent infringing variation of Disney's EMV ride system designed and manufactured by Oceaneering Entertainment Systems. With a design that can be best described as a mechanical version of Crash's warthog mount, these vehicles are overall smoother (and far more lawyer friendly) than the ones you'll find at Disneyland, while still giving a zany feeling to the ride experience. Guests board their vehicles and leave the temple into the jungles of N. Sanity Island.

Scene 1 / Jungle Jam

The vehicles quickly go through the jungle on a slight decline. The roads feel a bit rocky as expected from a natural path. In this jungle there's stone, structures, wildlife, and of course plenty of crates. Rotating giant stones on the side attract the eye by rolling side to side. Just before approaching Crash Bandicoot sleeping on a giant stone, Neo Cortex is heard yelling "I found the intruders! Destroy them!" waking him up. The vehicles advance and almost run into a bunch of nitro crates on a tight curve.

N. Gin, a Peter Lorre type underling, is then seen above a stone fortress looking for the guests in the wrong direction ready to hit them with a stone boulder. Guests go through the stone fortress where the boulder can be heard going out of control and running over N. Gin. Exiting the temple, the final result can be seen- a flattened N. Gin stuck to the side of the boulder.

Scene 2 / The Swamps and the Frozen Lake

The ground starts to feel muddier entering a swampier part of the jungle. A man eating plant lunges at guests, when the vehicles dodge the plant a pile of nearby crates disappear (using a Pepper's Ghost effect) that were in their way. The vehicles go past a stream where a few nibbling fish pop out of the water (similarly to the Piranha's on the Disneyland version of the Jungle Cruise). N. Brio, another kooky head assistant of Neo Cortex, is heard saying 'You can't trust an idiot, to do a genius's work." as riders then pass by a giant fan causing the entire area to gradually freeze over.

N. Brio

The vehicles now feel like they're struggling to stay firm on the slippery ice. Penguins figure skate on the icy surroundings with there being an appearance from Crash who emerges from a crack in the ice in a block of ice himself. Going up a hill, the vehicles narrowly avoid the seals going down the slope. Entering an ice cave, riders see N. Brio getting one of his potions ready and seems to throw it causing a puff of smoke.

CAUSING GUESTS TO BE WARPED INTO THE PAST...

Scene 3 / Time Warped

Guests hear a deep, echoing voice of the time traveling accomplice of Neo Cortex, Dr. N. Trophy, who declares "You'll be trapped in the past forever!" as the vehicles enter an Egyptian-like tomb full of Mummy Assistants lunging close to the vehicle. The vehicles exit into the bumpy street of an Arabian city. Lab assistants with giant swords appear out of windows attempting to slice at guests. One Assistant is attempting to blow out a fire that another street performer-like Assistant created on accident. Now throughout the rest of the scene, the city is on fire! The vehicles then go past a monkey performer balancing pots nearly falling on riders and then into the desert narrowly escaping what is now a city of ashes.

But the desert isn't located in the Middle East, it's one in the United States, specifically Nevada, circa 1950. A motorcycle gang rolling by nearly cuts guests off, but the vehicles dodge the intrusion just in time. Near a billboard advertising Dingodile's Diner, Crash Bandicoot is on a motorcycle with greaser style clothing with a Wampa Bazooka. He takes aim at a giant clock causing it to go haywire. The vehicles then go through a speed tunnel which shows projected imagery to represent going back to the present as the N' Trophy is heard lamenting about losing to a marsupial and his accomplices.

Scene 4 / Bridge to Cortex Castle

The vehicles exit the tunnel back to the present, Cortex's Lair is seen very far ahead and the only thing that could possibly stop the guests from reaching it now is the unreliable old bridge. It's a foggy evening outside so they'll have to be extra careful to take a ste- move forward otherwise fall what into looks like a foggy ravine below! After getting on the bridge the vehicles start adjusting to the gaps that are along the way. After a small break in the center of the bridge, where vultures rest, it's obvious that the gaps in the second half are quite large. Now the vehicles make what feel like large hops to clear the gaps that are on the bridge to simulate jumping. Riders survive and make it to the final destination, Cortex's Lair.

Scene 5 / Laboratory Hijinks

The vehicles now enter Cortex's laboratory headquarters filled with toxic waste pools of every chemical known to man. Lab assistants are panicking about something, which is Crash Bandicoot entering the building as seen on the monitors and an emergency announcement from Neo Cortex who also asks for the assistants to try to capture the guests if possible. Becoming more castle-like, the vehicles zip around, dodging under a bolt of electricity going over guest's heads. A giant neon exit sign makes it seem as if the end is near... but there's one person who still has a bone to pick with guests.

The vehicles make it onto what seems like a conveyor belt causing the vehicles to start moving at a snail's pace forwards. N. Brio, who threw a potion at riders earlier, reappears to once again be one last obstacle before the final confrontation with Cortex. He laughs and mocks the riders attempting to throw his potion, but the vehicles speed up unexpectedly off the conveyor belt catching him off guard. The potion is heard exploding and just before the exit unto Cortex's blimp, guests will see N. Brio's (now as a chicken) near the exit to the fortress.

Scene 6 / Neo Cortex Confrontation and Ending

The vehicles make it onto the blimp, where Neo Cortex is ready to blast guests and starts gloating about his success and how he's already gotten 3 buyers for his soon to be built condos. The vehicles make a turn when Neo Cortex notices that his Crash Decimator isn't working. Crash Bandicoot is soon seen giggling having unplugged the wire that the blaster is connected to from it's plug.

Neo Cortex soon yells "You fool! That was also powering the blimp that you're standing on" the guests soon notice that it feels like their vehicle is on unstable ground while the scenery becomes abstract and cartoon-like (think Roger Rabbit Car-Toon Spin) representing the fall back to N. Sanity Island. The vehicles go through a crash door where comic book-like explosion effects surround riders. The vehicles exit the room back into the temple where the ride started, Coco is surrounded by rubble which both Neo Cortex and Crash Bandicoot are trapped in. Coco says "Oh, you all again. Don't mind me have a fun rest of your day, while I get these knuckleheads out of this mess" as she waves goodbye. Neo Cortex is heard muttering about how his "headdie hurts" as the vehicles turn back into the Grand Hall where the ride began. Riders exit at the unload and exit into the ride's giftshop, N. Terprising Traders.
