About Me

I grew up in Kilwinning, Ayrshire in the south-west of Scotland.  My dad is a mathematics teacher, and was hugely important in inspiring my passion for maths, and more generally science.  I was also inspired by many of the teachers at my local secondary school, Kilwinning Academy, and I am hugely grateful to them for their help and support.

I studied for my undergraduate degree at the University of Glasgow, and obtained a BSc in Statistics in 2011 with First Class Honours.  I obtained my PhD in Statistics at the University of Glasgow in 2015, working under the guidance of Professor Duncan Lee and Dr Nema Dean.  My PhD thesis focused on modelling disease risk in space and time, and had the title "Identifying Boundaries in Spatial Modelling".

After completing my PhD I moved to Australia to take up a role as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Technology Sydney, working under the supervision of Professor Louise Ryan as part of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Mathematical and Statistical Frontiers (ACEMS).  During my time in Sydney I worked on a large multinational interdisciplinary project on child growth and development with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

In August 2017 I returned to the University of Glasgow as a Lecturer in Statistics within the School of Mathematics and Statistics. In August 2021 I was promoted to Senior Lecturer. In 2022 I was elected as a member of the Young Academy of Scotland.
