Are the coffee beans I entered into 'My Beans' section visible to everyone ?
No, the beans entered into My Beans section are only visible to you and not to anyone else. It is only after the beans have been added to events, and the event is past with cupping results recorded, then you will be prompted with 'List this bean' option. After filling up the listing form and upon approval, your beans will be visible to everyone on the Home / Explore page.
Are the events I organized visible to everyone ?
Yes, at the moment all events are publicly visible, but an access code is required to enter the cupping screen to prevent unauthorized access and fraudulent cuppings. The access code is visible to the user who created the event (organizer) on the Events screen, and has to be shared to participants through their own means/channels outside the App.
Why is there no 'Save' button on the Cupping form ?
All responses once entered are saved immediately, you can navigate freely between questions, sections, and beans, and also change your responses freely without worrying about saving. And the consolidated results are also updated immediately on the cloud server. You can have 1 device showing the real-time results, while cupping is proceeding on many other devices.
Why is the Cupping form disabled for some events ?
The Cupping form is only activated during the event's scheduled time, if you try to enter outside the scheduled time, the form will be disabled.
If my device or phone is hacked, has some virus, or has its security compromised in some way, can someone possibly have access or visibility to my sensitive data?
Yes, some of the data you entered into the App is stored locally on your device, and it can possibly be accessed if your device's security is compromised. It is your responsibilty to ensure your device's security is not compromised at all times.
Will the saved data disappear if I kill and restart the App?
No, saved data will stay and persists across App kills and restarts. Data will be gone if you delete the App and choose 'Remove all data' option when deleting the App.
Visibility
For now, all events are publicly visible (private events may be added as enhancement later) but it is perfectly safe and all right to do a private or personal cupping, because all events require an access code to enter the Cupping form, and only the event owner has the access code.
'Results' do not require an access code because you do not know which bean code is for which actual bean if you did not participate in that event, and you can't see other event owners' bean details too.
Access code is visible only to the event's creator/organiser under the event name / location and should be communicated to participating Cuppers outside the App. You can leave out the event location details and other details that you deem inappropriate to be publicly visible, as participants only need the event name to search for it and the access code from you to enter.
Event Creation
To create an event, you need to first have beans in the (+) tab "My Beans" page. After adding beans, you can select multiple beans with the check boxes, and a bar with an option to 'Add to Event' will appear, and you will be shown the Event Creation form. After filling it, it will go through a brief approval process to ensure the beans information entered are complete and reliable and not fraudulent. After approval by the admin team, your event will be visible on the Events page.
Cupping Protocol
The App uses the ASEAN Coffee Federation's ASEAN Coffee Appreciation Protocol (ACAP), which encompasses the ASEAN Flavour Wheel, a localised version of the Coffee Flavour Wheel. The ASEAN Flavour Wheel includes all the flavours from the international Coffee Flavour Wheel, so international users will have no problem using it, as well as include many additional local flavours that ASEAN users will be familiar with.
Cupping Form Guide
On the Events screen, upon click on 'Cupping' button, you will be asked for an Access Code. Event organizer/owner has to tell participants what is this 3 character case-sensitive code. The event organizer/owner (not participants) can see it on the same Events screen below the event name/location.
Access Code of 'h4h' in this example. Organizer has to communicate this code to participants as it's not visible to them, this is to prevent unauthorized access to events.
Once you're in the Cupping Form, Swipe left/right to switch between beans easily. Just click through all your responses and there is no need to click Save as everything is automatically saved. The 3 character code in the grey box on top right represents the specific bean's code. Only the creator/organiser of the event, who has to be the creator/owner of the beans, is able to see the full details of the beans in their own 'My Beans' (+) tab.
On the physical event setup, organizer can choose to physically show only the code on each sample for a blind cupping, or optionally also show details of each bean for an identified cupping (picture above with 'K1e' being the code but all details shown).
Results are also represented by the same 3 character code on the Cupping Results Summary screen. Hence for a blind cupping, the event creator/organiser has to share those details with participants at the end of session for them to know the bean detail corresponding to each bean's results.
Every tap or response is directly saved and sent to cloud server for combined results tabulation in real-time. If there are many people cupping, one device can be on the results screen and it can be interesting to see the results changing as cupping proceeds.
All the beans you add on the 'My Beans' (+) tab are private to you and not visible to anyone else. After you added a bean to an event and cupped it, the bean details are still private to you by default.
If you want to supply or trade the bean, you have to cup it at least once, then go through the following steps to get it listed on the Home / Explore tab where it will be visible to everyone, and be able to receive enquires from anyone.
See any taste profile you like? Send an enquiry!
If you have added beans, cupped them, and also went through the steps to list them publicly, then just look out for new enquries and respond!
