November of 2019 to April 2021, I worked as an instructional designer and Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) Specialist designing courses for the United States Coast Guard. This project looked at the entire development of the project phase. One course was is the Pilot stage and the other course is the Beta stage.
I also developed a course for the FAA to instruct users on how to use a comprehensive knowledge center of regulatory material.
The users learned about the basics of a complex system by clicking on each of the images and seeing a description of each component. To develop this, I found an image that the client liked
And while tabs are sometimes needed for information, other times an image, simple text, and white space is best.
This is part of the lesson on a cargo system. When the users came to the page, there was a nice question mark and then the tabs opened for each of the five processes.
This job aid was created by researching the basic information and then meeting with the SMEs to fill in the gaps and ensure it was accurate.
Starting in October 2020, I began working with a contractor to develop training for the FAA on a system that is a repository of regulatory information.
I met with the SME, developed timelines and storyboards, worked with another instructional designer and an eLearning developer to create the videos used in the course and the pages in Storyline. This course has knowledge checks embedded as well.
Due to updates in the system, as well as additional SMEs being added, this took about 4 months from start to finish. But this project is now 100% done.
This started with a meeting, then an outline, which led to storyboarding, Alpha, Beta, and then the final product.
