In July 2025, Sheriff Lenn Wood guided the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office into a new chapter of service by establishing the Public Safety Cadet Unit # 560. With his signature on a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Public Safety Cadets, he opened a door for local youth to learn, lead, and serve alongside trusted mentors.
What began as a simple idea grew into a promise to families across Coweta County. The Sheriff’s vision was clear. Invest in young people, teach them the values that define our Office, and give them a safe place to grow into responsible citizens. Unit 560 stands as a reflection of that commitment, where mentors give their time, cadets discover their potential, and our community gains the next generation of servant leaders.
Public Safety Cadets are young people who join a structured, mentor led program sponsored by public safety agencies to learn about serving their community. The program builds leadership, ethics, and career readiness through training, supervised activities, and community service. Cadets are not sworn officers and do not perform enforcement duties; their focus is learning, service, and personal growth.
The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office Public Safety Cadet Unit offers real‑world leadership and community service opportunities for young people interested in public safety. Cadets learn teamwork, discipline, and practical skills through training, mentorship, and community events. The program is operated by the Coweta County Sheriff's Office with support from the national Public Safety Cadets organization.
Cadets meet every 2 weeks for foundational skills, scenario practice, and planning for upcoming events. Sessions are led by the Mentor Team within the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office.
Cadets support local events, staff safety booths, and assist outreach projects like supply drives and cleanups, building leadership, communication, and service skills while representing CCSO.
Cadets explore public safety careers and receive guidance on college and career planning through mentor talks, agency visits, and skill building.
