COVID-19 Crisis Communication Aid

A communication system to aid the public during the global COVID pandemic

Mission Statement:

Our goal is to integrate data from the CDC and New York City government agencies with IBM's Watson Assistant and machine learning to construct a chatbot that provides users with real-time data to help mitigate the effects of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). By incorporating web tools with the added convenience of Amazon Alexa integration, we hope to create a communication system that will help the public access COVID related information.

IBM Chatbot

A Watson Assistant service utilizes machine learning and natural language processing to interact with users, provide them with data, answer their questions, and direct them towards useful services.

Alexa Integration

Amazon’s virtual AI technology assistant, Alexa, has the added benefit of accessibility. By 2021, Alexa stations throughout the BMCC campus will allow students and faculty to interact with Alexa to receive the same information as our chatbot.

Real-Time Data

By accessing regularly updated websites as sources of information, Watson and Alexa will always have the most up to date COVID statistics, closures, and locations of testing facilities.

Powerful Linkage

By providing a top-of-the-line integrated system, we will be an important link in community outreach to aid with issues during this global pandemic.
