Why SEEL?

When taught in isolation, each of the important content provides the opportunity to support the development of the individual child and serve to build community. When taught in conjunction with each other, these contents have the powerful potential to mitigate the intergenerational inequities and injustices of our society. Children and adults are asked to examine race, ethnicity, gender identity, gender expression, language, neurodiversity, religion, ability, or any other aspect of identity both in the social context, and, through SEL, have the opportunity to understand their own role in this work. Children learn not just about themselves, or just about others, they are given the opportunity to see the work of self and the work with others as an integral part of their development and in finding their place in the world. Through this multi-faceted lens, Lee is creating a program truly unified and focused on fulfilling its critical mission.
