PROCESSION at the opening of the first Court Meeting; the Beadle, Mr Phillip Chancellor leads the procession, followed by Mr Evan Millner, Headborough , and Nattie Kamnuansil, the Precinct Clerk
The Beadle then opened the court meeting by proclamation:
"All manner of persons who have anything to do at this Precinct Court for the Precinct of Covent Garden, of Portsoken, in the City of London, holden here this day, draw near and give your attendance.
" God save the Queen"
Here we can see the farmland and village in the area of Portsoken Ward that is now Covent Garden Precinct, as it appeared in 1572.
Wentworth Street is at the top right.
Before being absorbed by the City of London, Portsoken Ward was under the jurisdiction of the Holy Trinity Priory, who had inherited the Soke from the remnants of the Cnightengild.
The Priory of Holy Trinity lay just inside the walls, near Aldgate.
