Our Mysterious Sub-Atomic World: Quantum Mechanics Without a Wrench
Leader – Peter Schmidt
6-Week Course
Description:
Come take some quantum leaps. Cuddle up with Schrödinger’s cat. Quell your doubts about the Uncertainty Principle. Find out whether God rolls dice.
The development of quantum mechanics was one of the most significant scientific achievements of the 20th century, and also one of the greatest triumphs of the human mind. The brilliant physicists who brought this about also had their human side, with personal quirks and passions, brought to life in the course book. We’ll take a look at some recent developments too, like quantum computing and cryptography. To join this adventure, bring no more than curiosity and a willingness to stretch your mind.
Preparation Time: About one to two hours. The reading in the course book will be 30 to 75 pages per week, but with some sections to be skipped or skimmed, as detailed in an accompanying Reading Guide that I will supply.
