Design

Describe your action plan and how each of your four chosen competencies will influence its design and implementation?

I personally feel that our policies need to revised because when i was looking to our policies for Special Education and support staff. The last time they were updated 10 years ago. We finally got a Para-Educators policy on August 13th, 2009. The para-educator policy as defined in the appropriate job description, under the supervision of a principle and a teacher that we work closely with. As a para-educator we have different task that we have to follow through the day. Our principle policy for Missoula County Public Schools was adopted in as a policy on December 9th, 1997 but hasn't revised since. I also personally feel like the school im currently at doesn't have the support from our principle. So my question is are they actually following the policy or not.

Our current policy that seems very bland with no real directions. I haven't really seen this policy used

How will your leadership leverage the strengths and address the needs of diverse stakeholders to support the plan of action, develop hi-capacity, broaden decision-making, and learn collaboratively?

I have been trying for the last 5 years of working for Missoula Public Schools to be a voice for para. Over the last year I cant even begin to tell you how many times I have personally reached out trying to get more support for para. We have one kiddo that should be considerened as a one on one, but our district wont approve it. This kids kiddo has hurt so many staff that myself went under surgey on May 23 because he kicked and he rebroke my left ankle. When I bring it up to my principle, he always comes back with the safety of our students in number one. I completely understand that but when are they going to start caring for the staff needs and saftey. I aslo tired to join the MBI team but they alays meet after our contacted hours so its extemely difficut to have para help bring information to the table when all the meeting are held after school. I dont even think we have attended a single staff meeting this year. We are always getting the news through the grape vine or the superving teacher we are working with. I personally feel that para and teachers should be at the meeting. Maybe they should think about extending our contract hours to the same as the teachers.

How will you use collaboration, questioning, data and reflection during the implementation of your action plan?

I have pretty much go around and gather data using my own way of asking questions when talking to other staff members because my priciple told me no everytime i asked if i could get information about our stuf at school. I sent several emails and never got a responce back expect for one and he said he would look in it for me and get back to me which he still hasnt. I personally reached out to people who also didnt work at the school but had special needs kids to get their input. Im not completely sure how im going to present this to the school board because i have been told no so many times that im trying to figure out a way to do it.

For this data, just walked around and asked different staff if they felt supported by our current admin and most of them said yes but definitely said no they didn't feel supported .

How will you address obstacles you may encounter in implementing your plan?

I have personally Get creative with this project as every time I would ask my principal he would tell me no. So I reached out to my union and she said if the principal said no then you can’t do it. She also said I could send her the survey and she’d fight to get it approved but it could take six months to a year. So right now I have been having conversations Get creative with this project as every time I would ask my principal he would tell me no. So I reached out to my union and she said if the principal said no then you can’t do it. She also said I could send her the survey and she’d fight to get it approved but it could take six months to a year. So right now I have been having conversations with my fellow colleagues kind of asking questions about how they feel and what needs to have a Successful para educator support team. A lot of them say that we are discredited for all the work we do and they also don’t agree that we should not be at the meetings they think that we should either schedule them for right away in the morning or extend our contract hours so that we were there at the staff meetings. Because having a sucessful para educator support team. A lot of them say that we are discredited for all the work we do and they also don’t agree that we should not be at the meetings they think that we should either schedule them for right away in the morning or extend our contract hours so that we are there at the staff meetings. Because the teachers already have a lot on their plate and they don’t wanna have to remember every single thing that was discussed so that they can bring it back to their team

How will you know if your action plan is successful? What evidence would support your claim?

I'm currently scared to see how successful my action plan will be because my principle hasn't been very supportive. But maybe if I take it to the school board theywill listen tohelme and maybe my voice will be heard for all the para! I personally think that some of the staff will disagreeing.
