This policy explains how the current version of Countring handles information when you record trips, use location features, create reports or back up your data.
Countring does not require a separate app account.
Countring stores the countries and territories you enter, arrival and departure dates, notes, custom territory names, your home country and app preferences.
When you enable automatic recording, it also stores country observations, their dates and times, time zones and location accuracy. Coordinates used for a lookup are not saved in the travel history.
Your records power the travel list, calendars, yearly statistics, home-country exclusions and reports.
Countring does not include advertising or third-party analytics SDKs, does not sell your data and does not operate a server that receives your travel history.
Location recording is off by default. If you enable it, iOS asks for permission to access your device’s location. Always access allows background recording when iOS permits it.
Countring sends coordinates to Apple’s MapKit service to identify the country and time zone. Apple processes those requests under its own policies.
You can stop recording in Settings or change location permission in iOS Settings at any time. Turning recording off does not erase observations already stored.
Backup and restore are initiated by you. Upload Backup exports a JSON file through the system Files sheet; choose iCloud Drive to store it with your Apple Account. Download & Restore opens the file you select.
Backups include your trips, notes, observations, custom territories and preferences. They are readable files, so anyone you share a backup with may read that information.
Countring does not receive your Apple Account password. Apple manages iCloud storage, availability and transfer.
Countring does not automatically merge changes between devices or upload a backup without your action.
Before replacing readable local data, Countring saves a local recovery copy for Undo Last Restore. The next restore replaces that recovery copy.
Undo returns to the earlier data and removes the recovery file when possible. Importing a backup does not enable location recording or grant iOS permissions on your behalf.
Reports may contain country names, travel dates and home-country arrivals or departures.
A PDF stays local until you choose to save, share or print it. Your selected service, recipient or printer then receives the report and handles it under its own policies.
Travel records remain on your device until you change or delete them or remove the app.
Manual records override GPS observations; deleting a manual override can reveal the underlying observations. Deleting an automatic stay removes its associated observations.
Copies you export, share or save to iCloud Drive are independent: deleting local data does not delete those copies. Manage exported backups in Files or iCloud Drive and shared copies with their recipients.
Device backups and diagnostic information controlled by iOS and your Apple Account are managed separately by Apple.
Local history and recovery files use iOS file protection, accessible after the device’s first unlock so background recording can work.
Keep your device and Apple Account secure. You can use Countring without automatic location recording or iCloud exports, edit your records, and choose where to send reports.
No storage or transfer method can guarantee absolute security.
If you contact the developer by email, the developer receives your email address and the information you choose to include. This information is used to respond to your request. Avoid including travel history or other personal information unless needed for assistance.
The Support Developer link opens Patreon. If you visit Patreon or make a contribution, Patreon handles information under its own terms and privacy policy. Opening the link does not export your Countring travel history.
If Countring’s data handling changes, this policy and its updated date will be revised in the app. Review the policy when installing an update.
