IT'S A GREAT DAY TO BE A MT'NEER
At Mt. Vernon Intermediate, my mission as the school counselor is to support each student’s academic, social, and emotional growth. I strive to create a safe, welcoming space where every child feels seen, heard, and valued. By partnering with families, educators, and the community, I aim to help students build confidence, develop life skills, and reach their full potential.
My vision as the school counselor at Mt. Vernon Intermediate is to create an inclusive and supportive space where every student feels empowered to grow, connect, and thrive. I aim to help students build resilience, embrace differences, and develop the skills they need to succeed in school and beyond—so they can become kind, capable, and confident individuals who make a positive impact in their communities.
Hi! My name is Sarah Mayne, and I’m excited to step into the role of school counselor this year. I previously taught 2nd grade for three years and 4th grade for one year, and also coached at the high school level. I'm excited for this transition because I believe my classroom experience will help me support both students and staff in meaningful ways.
I'm currently finishing my master’s degree in School Counseling from Lindenwood University. My husband Denny and I live in Monett and enjoy traveling and spending time with our families.
I’m looking forward to a great year of growth and connection!
As a school counselor, I serve as a trusted guide and advocate for students, supporting their academic, social, and emotional well-being. My role involves providing individual and group counseling to help students navigate personal challenges, develop coping skills, and set achievable goals. I collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to create a supportive learning environment that fosters growth and success for all students. Additionally, I offer guidance on academic planning and empower students to make informed decisions about their future. With empathy, professionalism, and a commitment to equity and inclusion, I strive to ensure that every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.

As an intermediate school counselor, I prioritize the confidentiality and privacy of all students. Information shared during counseling sessions will be kept confidential, unless there is a concern for the safety or well-being of the student or others. This commitment ensures a safe and trusting environment for all students seeking support.

**This goal was chosen based on the MV CSIP plan created in 2023. The goal was created from "key issues identified from needs assessments." This goal supports the district’s mission and vision by fostering clear communication that connects students, families, and staff to the counseling resources that promote meaningful futures, community values, and innovative learning experiences.
