IT'S A GREAT DAY TO BE A MT'NEER
Happy 2026-27 school year!!
My name is Sarah Mayne, and I’m the MVIS School Counselor. This is my second year in this role. Before I became the counselor I was a 2nd grade teacher and 4th grade teacher for a combined 4 years. I'm currently finishing my master’s degree in School Counseling from Lindenwood University and will graduate in May.
My husband Denny and I live in Aurora, and enjoy spending time with our families, being active, and are excited to welcome our little boy to the world in early September. Rhonda Botts, retired school counselor, will be my maternity substitute.
As a school counselor, I serve as a trusted guide and advocate for students, supporting their academic, social, and emotional well-being. My role involves providing individual and group counseling to help students navigate personal challenges, develop coping skills, and set achievable goals. I collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to create a supportive learning environment that fosters growth and success for all students. Additionally, I offer guidance on academic planning and empower students to make informed decisions about their future. With empathy, professionalism, and a commitment to equity and inclusion, I strive to ensure that every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.
I’m looking forward to continue building connections, and growing alongside your students. A monthly counseling newsletter will be sent out to all parents through email in the first week of the month, it will also be posted by the office. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please reach out, I'm here to help you!

At Mt. Vernon Intermediate, my mission as the school counselor is to support each student’s academic, social, and emotional growth. I strive to create a safe, welcoming space where every child feels seen, heard, and valued. By partnering with families, educators, and the community, I aim to help students build confidence, develop life skills, and reach their full potential.
My vision as the school counselor at Mt. Vernon Intermediate is to create an inclusive and supportive space where every student feels empowered to grow, connect, and thrive. I aim to help students build resilience, embrace differences, and develop the skills they need to succeed in school and beyond, so they can become kind, capable, and confident individuals who make a positive impact in our community.
As an intermediate school counselor, I prioritize the confidentiality and privacy of all students. Information shared during counseling sessions will be kept confidential, unless there is a concern for the safety or well-being of the student or others. This commitment ensures a safe and trusting environment for all students seeking support.
