This was a quick project to challenge myself to make a helmet from a handmade cardboard structure. Typically, I use a pre-made form like a plastic or cardboard box, which limits me in the kind of shape I can make a helmet into, and it rarely fits well. For this helmet, I used four long pieces and a thin ring of cardboard to create a form fitted to my head, then added cardboard spikes. To create a clean look, I covered the helmet in paper bag pieces, and spray-painted it silver and gold.
Edited pictures of me wearing the helmet, with a tin foil/cardboard axe and suit of armor I made a long time ago.
Made for a school performance of the musical Amélie for the student acting as Bubbles the goldfish.
The frames are 3D printed, and I think the lenses are mouth guards. The elastic band was taken from the waistband of old pants.
