Set

Set is my favorite card game. It involves pattern matching, where players look at a grid of cards and try to pick out specific groups of three cards before anyone else can. Some people love it, others hate it, but either way I love sharing the game with new players. Since I've played the game a lot, I wanted to see if changing the way the cards looked would make it harder for me and/or easier for my friends and family who aren't as familiar with the game.

The cards have four defining characteristics: a shape, a color, a number, and a pattern. There are three available versions of each of these characteristics. For example, the regular game has green, purple, and red for colors. My new deck changed three of these characteristics: shape, pattern, and color.

Ultimately, I think I prefer my own cards to the original deck. The colors and shapes are more pleasing and easier to look at for me. At first, it was definitely harder for me to find sets because I wasn't familiar with the cards, while my friends didn't feel disadvantaged at all by the new shapes, colors, or pattern.
