We all have origin stories, and those origin stories are often rooted in texts -- books, articles, chapters, collections, comics, atlases, encyclopedias, dictionaries, and so on. In the spirit of celebrating, sharing, and seeding the multiplicity of intellectual perspectives that shape our collective scholarly practices, Corridors Detroit will sponsor an Origin Story and Text Swap.
Origin Story Swap
All attendees are encouraged to swap an origin story with one other attendee during the conference. What has shaped you? A teaching moment in a classroom, something you read as a grad student, an impassioned keynote you saw, a teacher or mentor? Share your story with someone else and celebrate the diversity of our ideas.
Text Swap
Think of this as a sort of take-a-text, leave-a-text exchange. Near the registration table (next to the coffee), attendees are encouraged to share with others a text that made an impact on them. This may be an old, dog-eared book, a printed copy of a journal article or chapter from an anthology, or some (any) other text that you are happy and eager to hand to someone else to experience. Bring a text that inspired you to give to someone else and take a text that inspired someone else!
