“If you want to be important—wonderful. If you want to be recognized—wonderful. If you want to be great—wonderful. But recognize that he who is greatest among you shall be your servant." - MLK Jr.

This weekend we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Signed into law by President Reagan in 1983, the third Monday in January is a chance for all Americans to reflect on Dr. King's legacy and the tremendous impact he and the other brave men and women of the Civil Rights movement have had on our Nation. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, Dr. King led efforts across the country to challenge racial segregation laws and fight for justice and equality. He went to jail 29 times and was ultimately assassinated for his efforts, but the momentum of the movement he helped build led to the repeal of unjust laws and the passage of landmark legislation, such as the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

In a sermon Dr. King gave on February 4th, 1968 (only two months before his assassination), he called for servant leadership:

“If you want to be important—wonderful. If you want to be recognized—wonderful. If you want to be great—wonderful. But recognize that he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. That's a new definition of greatness. By giving that definition of greatness, it means that everybody can be great, because everybody can serve…"

I encourage each of you to look to Dr. King's example of servant leadership and seek to emulate this ideal in your own lives. How can we better serve our families, our neighbors, our nation, and our teammates? How can we place the needs of others ahead of our own?

This holiday is a great time to reflect on these questions and the legacy of Dr. King and his fellow champions of justice.

4th Meeting - Monday January 11th, 6:30 pm

We will have a virtual meeting on Monday, Jan 11th at 6:30 pm following the SAC Meeting (which starts at 5:30 pm).

Information on how to apply can be found on the webpage HERE.

PTA Position on Ballot Issues

The Coronado PTA has voted to uphold the following positions on the November Ballot:

Amendment B YES

Proposition EE YES

Proposition 116 NO

Proposition 117 NO

Proposition 118 YES

D11 4A YES

Our PTA unanimously voted to support D11 4A which is de-taboring of the school district. This is supported by Friends of D11. D11 often must leave millions of dollars in grants due the TABOR limits imposed on the D11 school district. Additionally, we are only 1 of 4 districts in the state still under TABOR.
