Cornwallis Sports Report 2025_2026 

Basketball 

This year was the first time Cornwallis offered a basketball academy in the sixth form in conjunction with Kent Panthers and Head Coach, and former GB player, Ryan Richards. The team won all the silverware for the southeast region with the following titles: 

• U17 Kent Champions 

• U19 Kent Cup Champions 

• U19 Kent League Champions 

• U19 AOC Southeast regional champions. 

The team also performed extremely well at the national level, making it to the semi-final against Myerscough but unfortunately losing by one-point (64-65). 

One player who averaged over 25 points per game this year, Keanu McIntosh (pictured) has accepted a scholarship in Los Angeles and will be leaving for his college in early September. We wish Keanu all the best in the future with his basketball career. 

Football 

The 1st XI played in the Kent 1st Division and were consistent all season. Unfortunately, one loss decided the league and the team ended the season in 2nd place. 

Three other teams lower down in the school made the Maidstone District finals that were played at the Gallagher stadium: 

• Year 7 won the league against Oakwood Park Grammar School 5-2. 

• Year 9 lost their final 3-0 against a very strong St Augustine’s school. 

• The year 7 girls had a very good season, although lost to Maplesden Noakes 5-3 in their last game. 

Athletics 

Bad weather hampered the start of the athletics season, although most year groups were able to compete in at least one athletics meeting before the final at Oakwood Park Grammar School. There were some good individual performances, but overall Cornwallis finished 9th out of 15 schools. 

Swimming 

Back in Term 3, Cornwallis formed a swimming team for the first time. They participated in the Kent Schools Swimming Championships in Margate. Fantastic swimming and PBs achieved, and a special shout out to Ethan who was placed in the top 6 for Year 9 & 10 boys 100m Butterfly! Well done to Ivy, Annabelle, Cadence, Noah, Ethan & Dylan. 

Netball 

No trophies this year for the netball girls, however there was full participation at the events with progress being made each week with their intense training from Mrs Edmed. 

Next Year 

There will be some changes next academic year to some of the academies and scholarships. The sixth form basketball academy will expand and have 3 senior teams. The academy has now qualified for the higher tier competition, CBL, as well as continuing to play in the AOC and Kent leagues and cups. 

The football scholarship programme will also expand for girls with a year 7 & 8 scholarship team created in conjunction with MUFC. 

Huge congratulations to Lacie D and Freya F in year 9.  Lacie, Freya and their team won a place in the European Summit in Portugal back in June.

They were crowned European Champions, placing 1st out of seven teams in the under 16 Youth Lyrical Division.  This is an incredible accomplishment for both Lacie, Freya and the team . We are very proud of them and all of their hard work.
