Cornwallis are football champions!
On Thursday 21st May, after an evening of brilliant sunshine and even better football, we saw our two year 7 teams battling it out to be crowned football district champions.
Our girls were in action first and played exceptionally well against a strong Maplesden Noakes team. Unfortunately, the match finished 4 -3 to Maplesden. The girls should be congratulated for their performance and hard work particularly in the heat. Next year we will be launching our scholarship programme for the girls' team and hopefully this will give us the push to go one better in the finals.
Congratulations to Mrs Holmes who has led the team all year.
Our boys played against Oakwood Park Grammar school in their final. Both sides were very strong and the match was a tough one. Cornwallis went 2 - 0 down early on after two brilliant strikes from the Oakwood player. After the water break, Cornwallis rallied and netted two quickly before half time. Cornwallis, began the second half playing at a much improved tempo managed three more goals in the second half to finish as champions 5 – 2.
A big well done here to the players and also Mr Baker who has been ably assisted by Mr McDonald in securing the silverware for Cornwallis.
Thanks to all the parents and fans that came to support the teams!

The senior basketball team made the semi-final of the AOC National Cup v Myerscough College from Manchester. It was a home game that became a see-saw battle. We had the opportunity to win the game at the end with 4.2 seconds left, with two free throws (score 65-64). Unfortunately, both shots missed and Myerscough College went on to win the national final the week after at the University of Worcester, beating Loughborough College by over 20 points.
This term and next will see the start of athletics and rounders tournaments.
