Dear parents and carers,
A short term but one of the busiest, as it is each year as the exam series gathers pace for year 11s and year 13s. We have been very impressed with the conduct of our candidates ahead of, during and after public exams: a great example to younger year groups whose time will come sooner than they think. To all year 11s and 13s: use the remaining time wisely; prepare adequately during half term and continue accessing the lunchtime and after school sessions provided by your expert teachers – it’s not too late to make a difference. A short-term sacrifice can be a lifelong gain.
We’re incredibly proud of all of our students and staff and would like to touch on a few notable achievements this term:
Two of our Year 12 DT students have been shortlisted for a national engineering award.
The RE department has been awarded the SACRE WIRE award, recognising their excellence in delivering the RE curriculum at Cornwallis.
Thank you to the Safeguarding and PSHE team for organising the hard-hitting and informative Breck Foundation assemblies attended by all year groups.
We wish all staff and students a restful half term and look forward to welcoming you back for term 6 in June.

This term our cohort of year 10 Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award students have completed both their practice and qualifying expeditions. For the Qualifying Expedition the students spent 3 days, and 2 nights hiking and camping between Folkestone and Dover. Their navigation skills were tested in some challenging terrain and for which all students demonstrated excellent skills. The resilience, team work and comradery shown by the students was also fantastic to witness. Next term students will be conducting presentations as part of their form assessment for the Expedition. Good luck.
Well huge done to all students involved – Harry B, Kieran B, Emily C, Joshua G, Fletcher L Caydence P, Reece R, Gavin T, and Noah W.
Thank you also to Mr Lee, Mrs Watts and Mrs Gollan for their exceptional job in the Expedition supervision and assessment.
Mr Clapp – DofE Manager
10 year 12 students travelled up to London by train to the Victoria and Albert Museum and then to the Tate Britain.
Students explored the core collections and discovered artworks that impact their drawings, paintings and sculpture on their coursework unit.
All ten visibly responded to key artworks during the day and indicated where this will influence their next piece of work.
The group were exemplary in how they conducted themselves in the venues and during their adventures travelling through the underground too. There might have also been some very tired sleeping lions on the train travelling home.
Year 8 Geographers were fortunate enough to visit Clockhouse Farm in Yalding to find out where our food comes from.
They also got to see how farming can be made more sustainable, as well as getting to eat some delicious blackberries!
The History Department rewarded 20 GCSE students this term for their exceptional effort in preparing for their GCSE History examinations. Students went above and beyond the expected commitment to learning - they attended weekly revision, Easter revision sessions, completed extra past papers, extra revision quizzes and revision workbooks. Students enjoyed a private guided tour of Whitechapel on the evening of Friday 1st May. They visited sites infamous with the Jack the Ripper police investigation of 1888.
Well done to the following students Charlotte B, Elliot B, Jason C, Emilia D, Daniel D, Scarlet D, Zac F, Pheonix H, Lucy M, Leon M, Alina P, Caydence P, Alexander P, and Archie T.
On 6th May 2026, a group of Year 9 Art Scholars visited Aylesford Priory and All Saints' Church, Tudeley to explore religious art, symbolism, and architecture firsthand.
At Aylesford Priory, students enjoyed a self-guided tour of the beautiful grounds and chapels, viewing religious artwork by Adam Kossowski. Students spent time sketching details from the artwork and architecture while discussing how faith and belief can be expressed through different artistic styles and materials.
The group then travelled to Tudeley Church to see the world-famous stained-glass windows created by Marc Chagall. Students took part in a fascinating talk exploring the history of the church, the symbolism within the windows, and Chagall’s use of colour and imagery. They then completed observational sketches inspired by the glass and the atmosphere of the church itself.
The visit gave students the opportunity to experience religious art in person, helping them to develop ideas for both Art and RE through close observation, discussion, and sketching. These ideas are being built upon in their scholarship Art lessons.
Both venues are also open to the public and free to visit, making them wonderful local places for families to explore. The Friars at Aylesford is open daily throughout the year, and All Saints’ Church, Tudeley is usually open daily during daylight hours, though times may vary seasonally.
Our piece of embroidery that we completed in school to be part of Ariadne’s Thread Group project FIELD OF CORNFLOWERS – to celebrate all the displaced women and children of Ukraine now living in the UK - has now been sent off and will be part of their exhibition being shown at All Saints Church, Kingston-Upon-Thames beginning on May 21st.

Dear Parents and Carers,
I'd like to extend my congratulations to the Year 7 cohort and how well they conducted themselves throughout the recent examination period. They were a credit to themselves and the year group, listened clearly to instructions, and learned a great deal from the whole experience. As they get their results back, it's really important that they listen carefully to the advice from teachers on how they can improve their performance moving forwards through school.
It's great to see so many House Representatives from Year 7. They play a vital role in events such as Sports Day and charity days. Not only are they a vital part of the House System and the school community, it is also excellent preparation for management of other people as they develop into young adults.
Could you please remind your son / daughter that mobile phones should be switched off and placed in their bags throughout the school day, as stated in our school policy. In addition, please reinforce the rules regarding jewellery and chewing gum, which is banned in school, in time for the start of Term 6.
Thank you for all your parental support this term. It makes a huge difference to your son / daughter's educational experience.
We'd like to wish all students a relaxing half term, and look forward to welcoming them back to school on Monday June 1st.
Mr Spurling & Miss Perry.
Dear Parents and Carers,
Year 8 End of Year Exams
With the End of Year Exams fast approaching, teachers are now fully preparing students to be ready for this. All exams will take place within normal lesson times and within their classrooms. Subject teachers will inform students of which lesson their End of Year Exam will be taking place in.
Be FAB Day 2! – Fantastic Attitude and Behaviour
Again, what a great way to end the term with our 2nd Year Group Reward Day – Be FAB Day 2!
As explained last time, the idea behind this celebration was that as we have so many fantastic and amazing students in our Year Group, who consistently show every day that they uphold the SMILE Values, we have found it really difficult to select 2 students each week for our Students of the Week. Once again, they have proved us right as we had 159 students (83%) of our Year Group awarded FAB Status, which was an improvement of nearly 30 students (18%).
This meant that on Wednesday 20th May 2026, they were allowed to wear their own clothes for the day and got the afternoon off schoolwork and instead, had a cinema experience in our Lecture Theatre.
Year 8 Clockhouse Farm
On Monday 18th May 2026, some of our Year 8s visited the Clockhouse Farm in Yalding to learn more about where our food comes from. They enjoyed a tour of the farm including the water heating centre and the greenhouses. Behaviour was exemplary and our students posed some good questions to our guide. They also got to enjoy some freshly picked blackberries!
Year 8 Attendance and Achievement Update
Well Done to all our Tutor Groups for their continued efforts in attending everyday – even when feeling slightly poorly. At the time of writing this, our winning Tutor Group is again 8SC followed very closely by 8KC – Who will take the top spot at the end of the Term?
8CE continue to lead the House Point League with 2179 over 8FJ with 2002 in 2nd place – Well Done to everyone in Mrs Eloff’s and Miss Johnson’s Tutor Group so far for contributing to these high numbers.
Year 8 Final Thoughts
In preparation for our return on Monday 1st June 2026, please could we ask for your support in ensuring that your child is dressed in full, correct uniform, is fully equipped, does not have false eyelashes and nails and is only wearing the allowed items of jewellery. This would ensure that they get off to the best possible start.
Could we also make a plea that if you have any suitable school shoes and Cornwallis Academy school blazers, which are no longer in use, please could you donate them to the Year 8 Team so that we can support those students who forget theirs.
Have a fantastic Half-Term, stay safe and we look forward to seeing you all return on Monday 1st June 2026.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.

Dear Year 9 Parents/Carers,
As we approach the end of this half term, I would like to take the opportunity to share some highlights and important updates for Year 9.
Earlier this term, students took part in their scheduled immunisations. As always, this can be a tricky event, but I am very pleased to share that the nursing team were extremely complimentary about the behaviour and cooperation of the year group.
A group of 15 students also represented the school on a Religious Education visit to Friars and Tudeley. Their conduct throughout the trip was excellent, and they were a real credit to the school. I am very proud of how well they represented the year group and the Academy.
Students are working hard in lessons preparing for their end of year exams. I am still astonished about how fast this year has passed, only 7 weeks more learning in this academic year before your children begin year 10 and their GCSE courses. Options choices are finalised for all students but If you do have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s allocated subjects, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
This term we also had a number of students contributing positively to student voice through their involvement in the Student Council. My thanks go to Matilda M, Ava W, Elliot A, Arafat K and Maja C for their thoughtful input and commitment, this helps shape new ideas for the school but also for our year group.
I am also delighted to share that Scarlett L has been selected as our school finalist in the National Art Bytes competition and has been invited to attend a celebration event in London. This is a fantastic achievement, her work was amazing and we wish her every success.
I just want to take time to remind you all that Year 9 end-of-year examinations will begin in the week commencing 8th June, taking place during normal lesson time. Students should continue their revision over the coming weeks. I have written to you all and shared a timetable. The timetable can also be found on Microsoft teams.
Finally, I would like to thank you for your continued support, without such supportive parents your children wouldn’t be progressing and achieving in the way they are. Please do continue to contact us with any concerns; I wish you and your families a restful and enjoyable half term break.
Mrs Clark-Keen
Head of Year 9
Dear Year 10 Parents and Carers,
As we come to the end of Term 5, I would first like to thank all students, parents, and carers for attending our recent Parents’ Evening. It was wonderful to see so many families engaging positively with teachers and discussing the progress and next steps for Year 10 students as they prepare for the important year ahead. Your continued support and partnership with the school are greatly appreciated.
I would also like to congratulate our Year 10 students on completing their first full set of Pre-Public Examinations (PPEs). These examinations provide an important benchmark of students’ current GCSE attainment at the end of Year 10 and help identify areas of strength as well as opportunities for further development ahead of Year 11.
As students move into Year 11, there will be two further sets of PPEs: one at the end of Term 2 and another in the new year, as preparation continues towards the final GCSE examinations next summer. Following each set of PPEs, there will also be a Parents’ Evening, providing families with further opportunities to meet with teachers, discuss progress, and support students through this crucial stage of their education.
We are proud of the maturity, resilience, and effort students have shown throughout this examination period.
Looking ahead to Term 6, Year 10 students will be undertaking their Work Experience placements from Monday 6th July to Friday 17th July. Students are responsible for organising their own placements and may choose to shadow a parent/carer, family member, or family friend to gain valuable insight into the world of work and develop important employability skills.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding Work Experience, please do not hesitate to contact the school so that we can offer support where needed.
Finally, I would like to wish all Year 10 students and their families a restful and enjoyable half-term break. We look forward to welcoming students back to school on Monday 1st June.
Kind regards
Year 10 Team
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we approach the half-term break, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support of our Year 11 students during this important stage of their education. The manner in which students have conducted themselves in recent weeks has been extremely positive, and we are proud of the maturity, resilience and commitment they have shown as they prepare for their upcoming GCSE examinations.
The half-term period provides a valuable opportunity for students to consolidate their learning and continue their revision in preparation for the examinations ahead. Consistent and purposeful revision over the break can make a significant difference to students’ confidence, knowledge retention and overall performance. We encourage all students to follow their revision timetables, make use of the revision resources provided by staff and ensure they are balancing study with appropriate exercise, rest and wellbeing.
Following half term, students will continue with the collapsed timetable. This structure has been carefully designed to maximise focused teaching time, targeted intervention and subject-specific support in the lead up to examinations.
Attendance to school remains critically important during this time. Every lesson, intervention session and revision opportunity contributes towards students’ final preparation. We therefore ask for your support in ensuring that students attend school every day, arrive punctually and are fully equipped for learning.
We would also like to remind students and families of the importance of maintaining high standards regarding school uniform. Although the examination season can feel different from the normal school routine, expectations around appropriate uniform remain in place and help maintain a positive and focused learning environment for all students.
Thank you once again for your ongoing support and encouragement. By working together, we can ensure that all students are given the very best opportunity to succeed in their examinations and move confidently onto their next steps.

Dear families,
An important term for our sixth form community; Year 12 have completed their mock examinations and some have sat their AS Level exams too. We begin to consider our senior team for next year from our current year 12 and look forward to students putting themselves forward for leadership roles. Our Year 13s have begun their final exams and are moving speedily towards finishing their journey with us. The Year 13 cohort came together this term for one last year group photo and we are looking forward to their prom this Friday evening. On Tuesday we held a fun and nostalgic leavers' assembly where photos and memories were shared by form tutors and students, ending with a fabulous performance from one of Year 13s favourite peers. We also had shirt signing and many cakes and treats to celebrate this important milestone for them all – we wish them good luck moving forward into their next exciting adventures. We are also very proud to have raised over £800 from our RAG week which is being donated to MIND charity!
