Haunted Waters Virtual Player Meeting:
- Media Coverage
- Prior to the start of the 2nd round we will be taking photos with the mayor and other dignitaries in celebration of the 25th anniversary of disc golf in Denison Park, to be published in the newspaper.
- Please wear appropriate clothing for photos…void of curse words, graphic slogans or illegal activities
- Parking
- Park in paved parking spots only. The pool parking lot provides easy access through the tunnel to the first tee. Do not park on the grass, you will be asked to move.
- Restrooms
- Use the comfort station. Not the trees, buildings, tunnels walls or bridges.
- Rite Aid and Dunkin Donuts are close to hole 7/8. There is a large gas station a little south on Park Ave.
- Flow of the course
- The course has several crossing fairways and other crowded areas – pay attention
- Do NOT throw on the group in front of you, that is a courtesy violation which may incur stroke penalties.
- 30 seconds is how long you get to throw. It begins when you reach your disc if it is safe to throw (group ahead or other park goers out of the way) and includes putts.
- Higher number hole always has the right of way
- Hole 5 must wait until previous group finishes hole 6, before teeing-off
- Hole 14 must wait until previous group finishes driving on hole 15, before teeing-off and then yield right of way as 15’s group enters the shared fairway
- Holes 1 & 2 take turns teeing-off when possible
- Other rules
- On or over any road is OB, even if the disc comes to rest in another fairway
- Over the green fence is OB, walk around the fence to retrieve disc
- Any parking lots or areas outside park boundaries are OB
- All park structures are OB
- Pavilions, gazebo, playgrounds, tennis courts, basketball courts, parking lots, skatepark, volleyball court, baseball fields, bridges, etc. If in doubt, play a provisional.
- Park equipment is not to be moved once the round starts. This includes Picnic tables
- Sidewalks and tunnels are not OB, play it as it lies.
- Hole 5: Inside the fence is OB as well as
- The grass area between the fence and Relihan Blvd.
- The extension of the fence toward the house (front and back)
- Holes 7 and 8: Any portion of paved surfaces (mainly skatepark) that are not the main, thin path or sidewalk are OB (unless otherwise marked with paint). Play a provisional if uncertain and ask the TD.
- Hole 9: Mandatory pole on the left side of the backstop can be difficult to discern which side the disc crosses. If you can’t tell for sure, then the player is safe. Do not waste time arguing this, the main point is to stop players from going over the soccer field. The mandatory line extends from the pole, down the fence line and passes to the right of the tee until it intersects the green fence behind the tee (unless otherwise marked with painted line). All throws that cross this line short of the pole and come to rest to the right of it have missed the mandatory. All missed mandatories go to drop zone or re-throw.
- Hole 10: Concrete area behind the basket is in bounds. Play from on top if needed or take casual relief straight back and no closer to the hole.
- Hole 11:
- Mandatory Tree on the right, just past basketball court (marked with pink tape). The disc must pass to the left of a line that goes from the left side of the main tree trunk to the corner of the basketball court nearest the tree. If you can’t tell for sure, then rule it as having made the mandatory.
- Discs that do not advance as far as the mandatory but end up on the basketball court or in the small pavilion or tennis courts do not go the drop zone. Use normal OB rules.
- Hole 12: Fountain planter is casual relief straight back, do not play from inside planter
- Holes 13-18:
- A disc surrounded by water is OB
- Red tees are not drop zones, follow normal OB rules
- If the water is low, the mud will be played as inbounds.
- A disc surrounded by mud must be played as it lies. No casual relief is given, and you may not “build your lie”. (wear footwear that you can get muddy)
- You may opt to take an unplayable lie penalty (1 stroke) and move straight back on the line of play as far as desired to another inbounds position.
- If the disc is in bounds (in the mud), you may play from underneath the bridges but you may not establish a lie above the disc on the bridge.
- Due to water carries and potential of lost discs, the PDGA allows for the use of alternate teeing areas but this incurs a 2-throw penalty. For this tournament, any player throwing from the white tees may instead choose to utilize the red tee, incurring a 2-throw penalty. Thus, a player would be throwing “3” from the red tee and not eligible for the ace pot.
- The bridge to the island is OB
- All holes except 14: The island is OB.
- CTPs & Prizes (must be first shot, players utilizing optional red tee rule are not eligible since it is their 3rd shot)
- CTP for Both Rounds (players utilizing optional red tee rule are not eligible)
- FA1 – 18
- Novice – 16
- Recreational – 8
- Intermediate - 4
- Advanced - 12
- Ace pool - hole 15 (players utilizing optional red tee rule are not eligible for this CTP or ace pool)
- Worst score on hole 13 (round 2) wins a bottle of Triskaidekaphobia from Brewery of Broken Dreams.
- Tiebreakers in order
- Most OB penalties on hole 13 in round 2
- Most OB penalties on hole 13 in round 1 & 2
- Highest total score on hole 13 for both rounds
- Lower PDGA number
- Ace Pool
- If no aces are hit, CTP winner on hole 15 will get 50% of the ace pool. The remaining 50% goes to the course for improvements.
- Playoffs, if needed, will be sudden death on holes 14 & 15, repeated until someone wins
- PDGA rules
- Relief from obstacles
- A player may obtain relief from the following obstacles that are on or behind the lie: motor vehicles, harmful insects or animals, people, or any item or area as designated by the Director. To obtain relief, the player may mark a new lie that is on the line of play, farther from the target, at the nearest point that provides relief.
- If a large solid obstacle prevents the player from taking a legal stance behind the marker disc, or from marking a disc above or below the playing surface, the player may mark a new lie immediately behind that obstacle on the line of play.
- A player who takes relief other than as allowed above receives one penalty throw.
- A player may elect at any time to take optional relief by declaring their intention to the group. The lie may then be relocated by marking a new lie which is farther from the target, and is on the line of play. One penalty throw is added to the player's score.
- No penalty throw is added if optional relief is being taken following a penalty taken for a disc out-of-bounds or above two meters.
- Abandoned throw (optional rethrow)
- A player may choose to abandon a their most recent throw by declaring their intention to the group. The abandoned throw and one penalty throw are counted in the player's score, and the player plays from the lie from which the abandoned throw was made. Penalty throws incurred by the abandoned throw are disregarded.
- 30 Seconds rule (includes putting)
- A player has taken excessive time if they are present and have not thrown within 30 seconds after:
- The previous player has thrown; and,
- They have had a reasonable amount of time to arrive at and determine the lie; and,
- They are next in the throwing order; and,
- The playing area is clear and free of distractions.
- A player who takes excessive time receives a warning for the first violation. A player who takes excessive time after having been warned for it during the round receives one penalty throw. See 811.F.5 for a player who is absent when it is their turn to throw.
- Picnic tables
- “Obstacles and Relief
- QA-OBS-1: My drive ended up under a picnic table. Can I play from behind it? On top of it?
- In general, no. Picnic tables, along with any other park or course equipment, are obstacles on the course. They are to be treated as any other obstacles, for example a bush or a tree. How you play your next throw depends on the picnic table. If there is room for you to take a stance under it, even by sticking your leg underneath, that’s what you do. If your disc is on top of the picnic table and there is room underneath, it is a lie above ground and you mark directly below it and play from there.
If the disc is on top and there’s no room underneath (for example, a solid picnic table), you play from on top if that is reasonable. Otherwise, the table is treated as a solid obstacle and you mark behind it on the line of play. (strikethrough added by TD)
- Note from the TD
- There are no solid picnic tables in this park. You must establish your lie UNDER the picnic table and play from there OR take optional relief with 1 stroke penalty and move back on a straight line with the basket until you find an in-bounds position you like (it does not have to be the first available spot, move back as far as you want)
