COR3 has helped thousands of individuals and families find housing and get a new lease on life. Read some of our success stories below.
If you asked Jeremy M. to describe himself, he would tell you about his wife and his two boys, about his work ethic and his goals, maybe even about his action figure collection. For almost three years of his life, however, the world would describe him in a different way: homeless.
“I was homeless and pretty desperate,” Jeremy said. “It was hard to find someone who would treat us like people.”
Jeremy and his family’s stories mirrored that of too many in Denver – a city that, according to a 2020 report released by MDHI, has over 6,000 people sleeping on the streets at any given time. No roof over their heads; no safe place to sleep at night.
Jeremy and his wife found COR3 through another nonprofit in the city, and that is when everything started to change for the better.
“It was great. We talked with our case manager and they helped us step-by-step, helped us meet our basic needs every month, and helped us find something that fit our budget.”
COR3’s mission to provide financial assistance with housing to help get people back on their feet resonated with Jeremy and his family. When COR3 helped him finally find a place to call home, he talked about how everything else improved in his life, too.
“Every time I went to work, I knew my wife and kids were safe. Everything is better with a home. You can work knowing that tomorrow your clothes are going to be clean. You can sleep knowing there will be a place to make a warm meal tomorrow.”
According to Jeremy, people need to look deeper at the issue of homelessness and realize how many factors are at play. People like him want “the effort they put in to match the reward they get back,” and they just need a little help to get started.
Jeremy and his family have been living in their new home for over a year now, and their lives are starting to feel like their own again.
“It’s all about building memories, you know? You have that stable place, you have four walls and your family, and it’s a huge weight off your shoulders.”
He said the magic word for him and his wife has been “acclimate.”
“It took some time, but we are feeling acclimated now. It’s a new life,” he said. And COR3 helped make it happen.
“They’re real people there. Real people. No hot air, no broken promises, no wishy washy stuff.”
Jeremy called COR3 “one of the best programs ever created,” and a “real lifesaver.” Thanks to his hard work, the COR3 program and the willingness to help from one landlord, his whole family is living the life they always wanted.
“This is our second chance, and the whole family is so happy. We go hiking all the time now. We are close to our boys’ school and to three different parks. We love it here.”
