Connectives, Predicates, and Priority

SNF Project No. 100012_173040

Welcome to the home page of the SNF project 'Connectives, Predicates, and Priorty' (duration: June 2017 - October 2020). The project is led by Kevin Mulligan, professor of philosophy at Università della Svizzera italiana (USI). His collaborator is Jan Plate.

The aims of the project lie in (i) the elucidation of notions of metaphysical priority, following an approach that emphasizes a distinction between derivative and non-derivative sectors of reality, and (ii) the elucidation of relational phenomena, with special emphasis on the semantics of connectives.

In the course of this project, we have organized three workshops. The first of these, with the title 'The Fragmentation of Reality', took place on July 21 and 22 on the USI main campus at Via Buffi 13, Lugano. The second, with the title 'Derivativeness and Priority', took place on September 9 and 10, also on the USI main campus in Lugano. The third workshop, with the title 'Properties, Relations, and Relational States', took place both online and in-person, at the Hotel de la Paix in Lugano. It was a 'joint workshop' associated both with the present project and with a new SNF-funded project with the title 'Functions, Relations, and Types'.
