Complex Oxide Physics Lab. Research
The research of our group covers a broad range of heteroepitaxy of complex oxides and their characterizations. We "design" and actually "build" various thin film heterostructures of metal oxides, expecting something surprising. Whenever a strongly-correlated complex oxide, such as a perovskite transition metal oxide, forms an interface with another oxide material, the electronic correlation leads to completely new ground state, not present in original materials. Indeed, complex oxides heterostructures have shown interesting new properties, such as multiferroicity, tunable superconductivity, and efficient energy conversion, offering unique capabilities to overcome challenges. Our interest includes the synthesis and characterization of epitaxial oxide heterostructures suited for exploring such emergent phenomena. Our interest also includes the device applications of oxide heterostructures, for example, ferroelectric tunnel junctions, non-volatile memory, memristors, and quantum transistors.
