sun beating the sand

a naive girl struts around

trouble will follow

jewel in the desert prized

she attracts so many eyes

hunger

horrid beasts and grifters lurk

they bide their time well

for the unexpecting fools

empire built on broken backs

sandy, dark, shady

lights in the desert so grand

you are valuable there

in their work camps and dark cells

the huge cacti loom

life flourishes around them

a respite at last
