OUR MISSION
Constellation Craft Kits develop, assemble, and donate engaging and therapeutic craft kits to care facilities for their pediatric patients. Our mission is to provide children with a sense of normalcy, accomplishment, and joy during their hospital treatment. Each craft project is designed to foster emotional healing, promote cognitive development, inspire creativity, relieve stress and encourage social interaction.
OUR KITS
All of our kits are designed in a “grab-and-go” style. This means everything needed to complete the craft is included—whether it’s scissors, glue, or crayons. No extra supplies are needed.
These kits offer more than just a creative activity—they help bring a sense of calm, offer a positive distraction, and give patients something enjoyable to focus on. Many of the crafts are designed to be interactive or meaningful even after they’re completed, so patients can continue to enjoy them afterward.
We carefully select and create kits with the hospital environment in mind. Whether they’re being used during inpatient stays, in waiting areas, emergency departments, or infusion rooms, the goal is always the same: to provide something thoughtful, engaging, and comforting. Everything included in the kit is for the patient to keep.
OUR HISTORY
My name is Katie Mueller. In 2020, my then 4-year-old daughter was diagnosed with cancer. During her treatment, we spent countless hours in the hospital — from week-long stays to infusion treatments, ER visits, and scans. Much of that time, she was confined to a bed or connected to machines, often too unwell to move around.
One thing that consistently brought her comfort and joy was crafting. Whether in bed or in the infusion chair, crafts gave her something to focus on — a creative outlet that made long days feel a little shorter. They gave her a sense of normalcy, accomplishment, and light during a very dark time.
Crafts have the power to reduce stress, improve mood, distract from pain, and lift spirits — especially for children facing medical challenges. I witnessed these benefits firsthand and wanted to make that experience available to other pediatric patients.
In January 2024, I launched Constellation Craft Kits, a nonprofit initiative that donates thoughtfully curated craft kits to hospitals throughout Michigan.
The name Constellation holds special meaning.
First, it honors the star my daughter received at Give Kids the World, a Florida-based resort that offers magical experiences and a week-long stay for children with critical illnesses. Her star was placed in the Castle of Miracles alongside thousands of others — forming a beautiful constellation of brave young souls who deserve light in their lives.
Second, Constellation represents the incredible network of volunteers and donors who make this mission possible. Each person involved is a shining star, helping us bring moments of joy and creativity to children who need it most.
Today, I’m grateful to share that my daughter is happy, healthy, and cancer-free. Through Constellation Craft Kits, we hope to share that same light and hope with others.
