The revolving theme around this capstone is intersectionality where the intersectionality of queerness is looked at in the context of humanitarianism, migration, and even urban planning/life with other identities to explore the nuances that intersectional approaches brings to research. First, I think it to be incredibly important to define queerness and the associated nuances within it as an identity to show how deep intersectional approaches can be. In that vein, I invite you to look at the Queerness section of this capstone to see my breakdown of the identity as it means to me and how it relates to the capstone at large.
There are three primary topics that my papers throughout the program have used with queerness and intersectionality that I will talk about in this synthesis. Intersectional queerness and migration is the most recent topic I have covered followed by humanitarian ideals and queerness, and lastly, Urban planning/life and queerness. It is important to note that within these topics, I show different ways that you can use an intersectional approach, be it between held identities, academic approaches, or both in tandem. Each of these topics also included an element of discussing race as an intersection as well, which adds another dimension of acceptance and scholarship to these studies that I find very important to include and discuss. The inclusion of these nuanced perspectives in discussions involving these topics allows for more research to be built on it in a number of perspectives and broadens the way that we tackle issues and approach various theories like necropolitics, ally-ship, research methods, and more. I cannot stress enough how important I find it to be to adopt intersectional approaches beyond identity as differing academic perspectives can also add great value to discussions.
Reviewing the work I've done I think it is pretty clear that while I was using this intersectional approach heavily in my writing and constantly advocating for it, I think it took this capstone, compiling this work, and reflecting on it to see intersectionality as a tool and a goal that can be broadened and used in any number of ways to build on itself and enhance so many aspects of life. I hope this can spark some ideas for others or reaffirm and help form thoughts that folx are having about this context.
