Email connectUP@ku.edu if you are interested in participating. We will meet with you and/or decision-makers at your school or district to determine if this project is a good fit for you. These decision-makers are often principals, special education directors, etc. but it may vary depending on your school or district.
There will personnel and material supports for implementation. Mentors will receive monthly professional development sessions. Outside of these sessions, project team members will be available to support mentors and coordinators. Implementation materials including an updated monitoring form and self-determination session plans to be provided either during or after the project.
Mentor
Time: Up to 60 minutes per week for a mentoring session with students, and monthly one-hour professional development sessions with your school or district-level coordinator.
Training: This is dependent on if you are a new or current mentor. Trainings will be a mix of asynchronous online, synchronous, and/or in-person sessions.
Data: Demographic survey, Mentor Practice Profile, monitoring form, goal attainment scaling form, end-of-semester survey, social validity survey, and an optional small group interview.
Coordinator
Time: About one hour a month for a professional development session with mentors, and informal check-ins with mentors as needed.
Training: This is dependent on if you are a new or current coordinator. Trainings will be a mix of asynchronous online, synchronous, and/or in-person sessions. Coordinators complete the same trainings as mentors, and an additional coordinator-specific training.
Data: Demographic survey, Check & Connect® Core Components and Elements Self-Assessment, end-of-semester survey, social validity survey, and an optional small group interview.
Depending on if you are a new or current mentor or coordinator, you will receive customized training. Most of the training will be online and asynchronous, so you can complete it on your own time. There will be some potential online synchronous training components depending on which group your school is in. This training will include an orientation to the project as well as Check & Connect® Mentor training or refreshers and training on the Self-Determination Learning Model of Instruction. Coordinators will also receive coordinator-specific training.
