PROCEDURES
Here's the overview of all the tasks and comments to be done in this module. You can treat it as a check list to make sure that you didn't omit anything.
STEP 1: Return to THIS Padlet (Password CL-SPORTS) to comment on the podcast reports (from Lesson 1-2).
STEP 2: Return to THIS Padlet (Password CL-SPORTS) and watch another student's recorded presentation/slideshow (from Lesson 3-4-5.) Make a comment.
STEP 3: Return to THIS Padlet (Password CL-SPORTS) and watch a sports commentary created by intercultural pairs (Lesson 3-4-5). Make a comment on the alignment of their commentary to the action you see in the video.
STEP 4: Return to THIS Padlet. (Password: CL-SPORTS) and comment on the posted fan letters.
TIP: Comments may include, for example:
Do you agree/disagree on something?
Likes or dislikes
Did you find something interesting?
How did it make you feel?
Did something surprise you?
Anything else you find relevant.
TIPS: Remember to apply NETIQUETTE and encouraging FEEDBACK. Keep in mind to only answer/leave your comments in a manner that is respectful, non-judging, sincere, and well-articulated.
CHALLENGING OPTIONAL EXTRA INTERCULTURAL MILE: In pairs or a small group, preferably intercultural, search through YouTube for short sports commentaries in a variety of accents: American, Australian, British, Indian, Scottish, Singaporean or another.
Extract a 30-second fragment from each recording (jointly problem-solve how to do it most conveniently, there are many different ways!)
Create a new video illustrating the different accents and perhaps techniques of commenting on a sport.
Post your creation on THIS Padlet (Password CL-SPORTS)
FURTHER CHALLENGES:
Find clips of the same sport (hint: research which sport is played in all/most of those countries)
At the end of the video you create, add a rationale comment on the similarities and/or differences in the style of the commentaries.
TRANSFERRABLE SKILLS
2. Creativity
4. Communication
12. Social skills
COMMUNICATION
Students may discuss ideas with peers in offline F2F settings.
COLLABORATION
Students cooperate by writing comments on posted content.
CHALLENGING OPTIONAL EXTRA INTERCULTURAL MILE requires intricate collaboration of two or more students in researching, splicing videos and rearranging them into one new one. Students will need to discuss, negotiate, divide labor, take initiative, problem-solve.
METACOGNITION
Questions for students to contemplate:
How did you approach solving problems or completing tasks in this session?
Were you conscious of your thinking process while working on assignments today?
Did you consider different strategies before deciding on a solution?
Were you aware of any distractions or obstacles that affected your focus during the learning activities?
Can you reflect on your own understanding of the concepts covered and identify areas where you might need further clarification?
REFLECTION & EVALUATION
The process of reflection begins when a person refers to his/her own experience and recollects what has occurred, reconsiders the experience, and reevaluates it. This effective strategy also improves critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
