TOPIC: RESIDENCE - LESSON 5

College move in!
(1 x 45 min)

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

1) to practice listening comprehension

2) to practice 21st-century skills

3) to get familiar with the topic of moving out to as a teenager due to changing the school

PROCEDURE

STEP 1 - Kenna is staring college in LA and she's moving there from her hometown. Join her during the packing adventure! Watch her vlog episode on moving to college and do the task in EdPuzzle to check if you've understood everything correctly.

TIP You can watch the video (link to original video on YT)  for the first time without doing the task to get the general idea of it. If the speed of the video is too fast for you, you can turn on the English subtitles to facilitate your understanding, or else slow down the voice in the video. The second option doesn't work in EdPuzzle.

STEP 2 - Think of 2 pieces of advice you would give Kenna on how to make her life easier in a new city or how to pack more effectively next time. Upload it to this PADLET.

STEP 3 -  Comment on other people’s tips on the PADLET wall (Are they useful? Which would you use?)

OPTIONAL: GO THE EXTRA INTERCULTURAL MILE. If possible, partner up with  a student from another country and think about "going to college/university" in various countries. Explore the similarities and differences. What is similar or different about the possible accommodation options? Who helps students move in in each country? What challenges might a student encounter in each country? How does each of you feel about those differences? Think of many more questions.

Jointly write up a short report (200-250 words) on the similarities and differences and share with your respective classes.
