TOPIC: RESIDENCE - LESSON 2 & 3 &

Map tour

(3 x 45 min)

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

1) to prepare a map of students' area with their description and photos to share with others.

2) to plan a day trip tp a new place basen on somebody else's map.

3) to practise 21st-century skills

PROCEDURES

STEP 1  - Create your personal map of your neighbourhood in Google Maps. Choose at least four "markers" in your local community. Pick places that are unique for your neighbourhood,  f.ex. places you regularly visit, not necessarily tourist spots, but places you would like to introduce to your peers if they were to visit now. The goal is that you show the local identity of your town or area. In the description of the marked places provide reasoning and explanation WHY you chose those places and how they contribute to your sense of local identity - basically what makes your neighborhood a home for you?

You can work in pairs, groups or individually

TIP - If you need instructions on how to make your own map on Google Maps, see the short tutorial HERE.

STEP 2 - Prepare some information about those places in English and, if possible, take some photos and/or videos and insert them. Also customize the marker as you find most suitable.

STEP 3 - Exchange maps with pairs / individual students from other schools abroad - post the link and additional description of the places you have chosen on this PADLET

STEP 4 - Choose a place you wish to visit from maps prepared by your peers and posted on the PADLET. See a few maps from this location (if available). Respond to someone else's map - Work on Flip - CODE 00284a7e , either in writing or video.

See additional instructions below

STEP 5 - Based on the maps provided by your partners, prepare a plan of a day trip to the town or area you discovered. Which places would you like to see and what would you like to do if you were about to spend one day at your partner’s town?

ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS

250-500 words in writing or 3-5 minutes long video talk on Flip - CODE 00284a7e

Guiding questions or what the video/writing should include:

Beginning: Hi, my name is ... and I really like your neighborhood and would like to spend one day with you in your town.

Middle: Then the places the person likes to see in the partner's neighborhood, why and the reasons why they find it interesting and what they would like to add, have some questions prepared (F.ex. could you tell me more about why the house is red - or does everybody like the food at this place and so on), maybe next some deduction about what kind of person the partner is regarding to its local identity (f.ex. It seems to me that you are a lively person that likes animals a lot!) - Teacher should stress the importance of showing others respect.

End: Finally a good bye and looking forward to seeing you and so on.

So the form is like writing a letter, practicing that skill and also stress out the importance of the same technique used in the video, they have to be prepared with beginning, middle and end.
