TOPIC: IDENTITY - LESSON 6
Identity Iceberg
(1 x 45 min)
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
1) to reflect on what's behind one's identity
2) to practice vocabulary and writing skills
3) to practise 21st-century skills
PROCEDURES
STEP 1
Watch this film (1:13 min). It explains what IDENTITY ICEBERG is.
STEP 2
Create your own IDENTITY ICEBERG. You can do it digitally (using any graphic design software you know) or simply draw it on a piece of paper. You can decorate it with some pictures or symbols that are connected to who you are. Don't be scared to be creative. Just make sure it is a real reflection of you!
STEP 3 (optional - you can skip it and go to STEP 5)
Only if you WANT TO and FEEL COMFORTABLE about it, upload your ICEBERG to this PADLET. Otherwise, you can keep your Identity Iceberg to yourself. You don’t have to show it to anyone if you don’t want to. You can also share anonymously. You don't have to give your name or surname.
STEP 4 (optional - but you can still do this task even if you skipped step 3)
Go to this PADLET and look at the icebergs of students who decided to share them with the world. Choose one or two, and in the comment section, share your own story when someone judged you based on the outside characteristics and didn’t know that the inside was much different.
STEP 5
Take a couple of minutes to reflect on the process of creating your identity ICEBERG.
Did you enjoy making it?
Did you learn anything new about yourself?
What was the most challenging part of the task?
Did you find it useful?
How will this be helpful/useful in your life?
Have an in-class discussion with your classmates and exchange your ideas.
STEP 6 (optional)
